Writing Prompt: Collocations with Get

Writing Prompt ~ Collocations With Get

Dear Mr. Human Mind,

It took 3 years until I got an unmissable chance to move abroad. I always got me ready for the day I would have to separate from my family and live alone in order to get better my professional status in a famous global company. In all my lifetime, that life change was my dream! But, in last months I have got upset as well, with my unwilling feelings to not travel and take over my duties all alone. Lately, I have tried to get sleep earlier than I  got used to, just for erasing this conflict from my thoughts. This really disturbs me. It's so illogical! Maybe, could I getting depressed with my adulthood responsibilities? If so, what piece of advice would you give me so that I can get rid of these contradictory feelings?

Yours,

Desperate to manage life

Dear Desperate,

Seemingly you're showing insecurity when you need to be self-confident the most. Responsibilities take part in adulthood too. Let's look on the bright side! You're conquering your freedom whereas you make your dreams come true through your dream job. Don't get changed by whatever bad crosses your mind. You're on a sucessful path, even if your parents aren't near you or you feel unprepared to start a new life far from your beloved. Everything in life goes right when we trust in ourselves. Remember that living alone has its own advantages: You get to know new people and their ways of life. Moreover, you are able to know yourself better everyday, since you're out of your comfort zone. And if you get tired of your routine some day, remember you can get a warm call from your relatives or just get back together with your close friends to retrieve your motivation. I hope I can, at least briefly,  have encouraged you to move on and don't give up your goals too easily.

Good Luck,

Mr. Human Mind

Hi Thomas,

Welcome to South America. Probably this will be your first time in the south of  American continent. I hope you don't be scared with the crazy heatwave that is passing by Brazil this season. You know, temperature is reaching + 40 degrees Celsius in some cities. By the way, Brazil has 5 main geographical areas, namely: North, Northeast, Midwest, Southeast and South. What region do you want to know first? Tell me before you coming, so that I can arrange a comprehensive route for you, including all the main touristic points. I advise you to start going to Northeast coastline if you enjoy wonderful beaches. On the other hand, if you enjoy urban life it's better start visiting  Southeast region first, where is placed the two biggest cities of Brazil: Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Amazonia rain forest  is in the north of Brazil. There, you can start visiting the capital city of Amazonas province, Manaus. Amazonia is a really breathtaking place for eco-friendly visitants, although is increasingly suffering  with deforestation every year. Lastly, South region, where you'll find the best cities for living in Brazil. This region got  a few centuries ago waves of European immigrants , specially Italians, Germans and Polishs, which make this local has a particular culture. I live northeastern Brazil, in a city that is located 600 km above sea level. Here, we have a good climate, even though in summer we  face hot temperatures about 35 degrees Celsius. I'm awaiting for you, and know you're welcomed in my house whenever you want to come.

See you soon!

Daniel

Writing Prompt: Future Goals

Writing Prompt ~ Future Goals

This year I am going to devote myself more to academic studies and professional opportunities. I am not going to be pessimistic. I am going to be more dreamy about to make a wonderful trip. I am not going to let difficulties bring me down. I am going to start contemplating more the natural beauties around me. I am going to go deeper in my reading of English books. I am going to be writing more in English for my readers. I am going to listen more to English native speakers, specially the British ones. I'm going to have a British accent. Why not? One of my life goals! I'm not going to mistreat my physical health, I should do more exercises at my home. If I can achieve at least some of these goals along this year, surely, it will be an amazing one!

Writing Prompt - Capital Letters

Writing Prompt ~ Capital Letters

Dear Philip,

How's it going there? Today is Wednesday here in London, January 1st 2015, and so, the first day of new year. London is cold but looks beautiful anyway! Don't forget the local time is measured according to the GMT. The first place I intend to drop in is the Buckingham Palace before lunch. In the afternoon, I want to buy some William Shakespeare's books I saw at the bookstore near to the flat I checked in. By the way, I found this same bookstore, the book you were interested, that one about the secret life of King Henry VIII. This bookstore is really big, that makes my dreams come true, because it has all titles everybody could be searching for. I knew several friendly people here as well, even though the English people are regarded reserved. In fact, they are very reserved, but polite when you get to know them better. Who will take me to get across London during my travel days is the lovely Amanda, a genuine London-born girl. She really knows this city, because she's an experienced tourist guide with over 20 years of work. When she knew I looked up to the Shakespeare's work, she proposed me to watch the play "The Taming of the Shrew" , an unmissable chance for Shakespeare's fans. She scheduled a special route through diverse touristic points that it's impossible to quote all of them here, because the list would be so huge. I only remember that, at the last day of my trip, I'll go to the Oxford Street in the city of Westminster. They say it's the busiest street all over Europe. That's why I'm looking forward knowing it!

That's what I've been up to during these my joyful days of travel.

Best regards,

Morgan

Writing Prompt: Quite

Writing Prompt ~ Quite

Hi Mrs. Barney,

I came to school at 7 AM o'clock as you exactly asked me last Thursday. All the pupils were so much quiet when I went through the school aisle, they surprised me  for their quietness. In fact, they  offered me a quite fresh chocolate cake to greet me.What a quite warm welcome teacher! I was quite amazed because of each and every student attitude.

After all of us have eaten this delicious cake we proceeded with the English class. I asked for all of them to sit down and give me a quite detailed introduction about themselves. Name, age and their life goals were said.

Most of students were quite engaged with the class' subject and took part in all discussions I proposed for them. They learnt how to use the basic verb tenses as well as verb conjugation patterns.

Except for Aly and Luke, who are quiet and reserved, all the other students seemed like have strong interest in the class topic, answering ready to all questions I made.

At the end of class, I asked them to answer the book exercise of page 37 and gave them a quite comprehensive homework: building a comparative board of main verbal tenses for next class.

I hope you can feel  quite relaxed in your one-week break from school dear teacher Barney, because here, everything's coming up roses.

Mr. Daniel

Expector's Writing Challenge

My History teacher is Anne. She's a middle-aged woman, even though, a high-spirited person. She has  taught me several curiosities about world-famous figures in her thought-provoking classes. In the last class she played a full-length film about Napoleon Emperor's life. She explained to me that most of people are mistaken as to the real physical features of Napoleon. She told that he was an egocentric, small and fat French general. However he's remembered for his bravery in historical battlefields. I wasn't disappointed by teacher's comments, once, I've already heard about these personality features on a TV documentary. I learned that there isn't always a perfect, tall, rich, young and blonde emperor because historical facts are full of contradictory descriptions.

Writing Prompt: Good or Well?

Writing Prompt ~ Good or Well?

Hi Craig,

The plane landed well in Brisbane on Wednesday. It was already Thursday and my back kept hurting even after so many hours of flight. I needed to take a ride with my good friend Bryan to see the  family's doctor since mom and dad were busy at work. Thanks God it was nothing and the doctor said I was doing well ! Apart from that, I can tell you that my sister Catrina is doing  so well too, after serious injuries in a car crash two months ago. I myself visited her in the hospital and she looked good. My clever brother Eliot is practicing his skills as an engineer in good quality cars after just having a degree at university. He really has a brilliant future ahead! My grandmother keeps with that old good smile, and, of course, making sweet strawberry pies on Sundays. She's a very talented cook! My grandfather is not so well because one of his good companions, the dog Puppy, has escaped since last week.

Well, I wish you a nice day!

Cheers,

Daniel

Gareth was organizing toilet papers at his job when suddenly he saw a powerful oval light approaching the supermarket entrance.

"Oh God, what's this?" he asked eagerly.

Then, he hears a strong intergalactic voice coming from the flying saucer says to him:

"Hello human! Don't worry, we don't have time to torture you or destroy your civilisation! Me and my friends are just in a hurry to find a comfortable sofa to watch the final match of Champions league, you know, in our distant K-12 planet the tv signal transmission is not always working," the weird creature said.

"Really?! I coudn't imagine you were football fans like me too," Gareth said.

" Do you know a cheap place with sofas and tv sets to hire for a few hours?" the spokesman alien asked.

"Of course, I hire sofas and TVs for outerspace tourists like you for a good price every week, just $74 dollars," Gareth said excitedly.

"Could you take us there?" the extraterrestrial creature asked.

"Just go straight and then turn right and you'll see a beautiful shop on an island with cosy sofas and huge hi-tech TV sets. You can help yourselves at no cost with barbecue. Just grab a knife to cut the steak," Gareth said.

An incredible night sky view

There was a night I was thoughtful and I decided to contemplate the sky. It was very starry when all of sudden I realised a flash-shaped light crossing it. What a magic experience! I had never seen a phenomenon like this. It was a beautiful comet with a long blue tail that had just passed me by. In fact, I didn't know how fast comets could be. At first, I was doubtful whether it is a comet or not, because it takes a blink of an eye for it disappears in the vague atmosphere. Even though, the quickness of that particular comet I saw, I can decribe it like an amazing  bright light that  seems  much more like fireworks came from outerspace. One thing I came to a conclusion after this event: Nature is an awesome book of wisdom and beauty either day or night.

Writing Prompt: A Piece of Advice

Writing Prompt ~ A Piece of Advice

Dear Nicky,

I know you're facing a harsh economic time as your father stop paying you a fat allowance since last month. To minimize your  money difficulties I want to tell you some advice that worked for me when I was alone and out of money while studying and working  in Hong Kong. The first piece of advice I'd suggest you is to take away all is superfluous from your budget. You know, what looked like necessary some time ago, now, it becomes really unnecessary. The second step is to work out your basic expenditures like dwelling, transport, clothing and food, based on what you earn on your work as a trainee. Try to pay firstly these debts anyways! This is most important advice because it keeps you with a minimum life quality. The next step is to plan any special spend you might have in the future like a friend's party at the end of semester or a travel on business. That extra events should be planned beforehand so that you don't have to tight your basic budget for long time. Last, but not least, remember to take seriously my previous pieces of advice. And a word of advice: "A friend in need is a friend indeed." You can always count on me if you need!

Your friend, Daniel

1. Don't use me during school examinations

I can be used for cheating on school exams. I have the ability to cheat on exams by sending the right question answers via SMS among several classmates at a glance.

2. Don't change your study for me

I'm skillful to distract while you're doing important daily activities like studying. With thousands of new applications and games everyday  I tent to not let you study all you should, and so, you can't get a good grade whether you're a college or high-school student.

3. Don't risk your life for me

I'm responsible for increasing the car accident's rate everyear, because you texts while you are driving. Even if you use me without touch me  your attention is impaired. I contribute as a  kind of driving distractions in traffic crashes.

4. Don't destruct your DNA overusing me

My radiofrequency (RF) radiation was proved through mice laboratory experiments to alter the genetic material of brain cells when you exposes yourself in a large scale.

5. Don't pollute the environment

As I'm always being upgraded by market, I cause what is called "e-waste". Every year 100 million of us, are thrown away in environment due to upgrade or damage becoming obsolete devices. The worst is that we are thrown in landfill sites where the adverse conditions like high temperatures and intense sunlight when getting in touch with our lithium-ion battery can give rise to explosion risk.

6. Don't get addicted to me

Most of you are getting obsessed with me every minute. Simple activities like walking down on a park, talking face to face, looking outdoors people and nature will be like museum artefacts in a near future. Some of you don't drop me at all, just for checking Facebook or post something to the Instagram.

Recollecting good school times

Today, I came across my friend Margaret at a bank queue while paying a few bills. You know, we went along way back, in fact, since highschool. Today, we're on thirties, but, it seems time was generously invigorating with us. We know that, and we try to compliment each other every time we find ourselves. After that meeting, we decided to get together our highschool close friends again for remembering the old happy times. For that, we hired a small, but, cosy space at the 161 Mark street near to a big bakery. Hopefully, it was a nice place to be, because, all our friends were extremely happy with one another after long time no see. Our dear friends Maurice, Jack and Lisa were there as well, hugging willingly one another. For sure, it was a special moment for all of us. I can't let mentioning Fabrice and Kathleen complimenting unceasignly each other. It was the funniest moment of the party! Lisa and me danced one another listening to romantic music, even though, we didn't fall in love with each other. At the end of the party, besides the contagious happiness, participants wanted to repeat the meeting for not forgetting that vivid memories in our minds nevermore.

Writing Prompt: See, Look or Watch?

Writing Prompt ~ See, Look or Watch?

I recently watched a documentary about bird's life. The documentary presented several kinds of birds and their challenges in search of surviving this immense world. The ones that seemed more appealing to me were the ducks that made intercontinental journeys during winter from North America to China. You know, sometimes, I watch some birds in the sky of my region, but, sometimes, I can look no birds. It's as if human activities are diverting them from environments like cities. They are refuging in places increasingly smaller for us to look. The last time I looked hummingbirds visiting my garden it was at least 5 months ago. I really don't know what is coming about for them, they don't want to come near again. I believe in the future it will become very harsh for observers watch birds freely at nature. They are in an ongoing extinction process. Last week, my friend came to my home and seeing I was  bored at home, asked me out to go to the zoo to look at the zoo's falcons, hawks, ostrichs, flamingos and condors. It was amazing experience!

Writing Prompt: Double Letters

Writing Prompt ~ Double Letters

  A Terrible Day for Josh

It was a terrible occurrence for me that day at school. Terry paralised my happiness instantly. Just because I misspelt a few double letters words in English, it doesn't mean I'm an illiterate in English. It was exactly what he meant to say to everyone in school about me. "You won't succeed writing this way! Silly guy!", said him. I think he sometimes exaggerates when trying to fix his schoolmate's mistakes. In the end, everyone is different and has their own difficulties. Accidentally, we all can make mistakes when writing without noticing the language particularities, and that not because we don't know the language, but, sometimes, we aren't enough committed to internalise certain word spellings as we should be. I believe success comes after you fail a lot. So, thinking that perspective let's say I have a "millennium" of opportunities to fulfill my goals when it comes to write pretty good in English.

Today is Sunday. A sunny, but cool autumn day in Budapest. I'm sitting and starring at Nature around me attentively. For a while, I could see all leaves of an oak falling out almost straight away in front of me. What's the reason? Don't matter because nature is wise ! But, it seems like trees get ready for water shortage period releasing their leaves all around environment. How could we go without mother Nature teachings? We have to value all its signals! It's worth stopping sometimes and taking a look at what the most interesting surrounds us. At the end, the park which I was, it was with a great red leave carpet dancing according to the direction of wind. The park visitants take cheerfully their children to meet up with all these natural beauties.Even when mankind will allow us to keep in touch with such sublime Nature?

Writing Prompt: Breathe Vs. Breath

Writing Prompt ~ Breathe Vs. Breath

Hi Marcel,

What's going on in your work routine? It seems you're looking so tired and stressed out as far as your mother told me last week when I met her in downtown. You know, I can book a few yoga classes for you next week, just come at my yoga gym and let me know how many classes you want. While you don't come here I can give some hints that can decrease your stress rate in your daily activities. First, if you feel so hectic to sleep, take a long breath and start taking smaller breaths after. That will make you relax easier and begin to calm your mind down so that you can fall asleep faster. If you breathe wildly in stress situations at your work, try to breathe in at least three times every time you feel so. It will help a lot. This way, you can think twice before making any hasty decision. Last but not least, you have to go for a walk outside your house, preferably in green parks or squares paying attention you must breathe in a very slowly way for you make the most of your lungs while you're running. Remember breathe very deeply when you finish your exercise so that your body get accustomed with that habit. Other yoga techniques I will teach you when you are practising here at my clasroom.

Peace,

Clark

PS - Mint tablets are delicious and can give you a fresh breath

Writing Prompts: Irregular Verbs

Some time ago, I dreamt that I was in England and I rode a bike through London streets in a foggy winter day trying to get certain place I didn't remember where it was really located. It was a fanciful, but amazing dream which I got around several city areas! I had not only the ability to understand well English, but also to be understood very well because I had a native-like accent. I felt myself like a real londoner that fictional plot. As far as I remember too, I also wore a long dark coat along red scarf, because it should be cold that day. I asked around  many people how to reach that place. They gave me detailed but, diverse suggestions about how to find my destination. I felt a bit confused at first, but tried to compare in my mind the best clues I had received so that I could  achieve the path to it.  In the end, I found out my destination, maybe something like a public library, and then, I got in and woke up.
