  • Hi Galina!

How were things today? “Well…, we had bright sky, sunny weather, birds were chirping cheerfully over the meadow and there was full of laughter in the air as well, Gabriel…!” Yeah Galina, I heard you! What I mean is how did you spend your time with the lovely students of yours? I believe you had a great time and this is the ONLY THING I always WISH FOR YOU, you must believe me!

Well! I’m writing this message in response to the one you pasted on my wall on Monday evening. Sorry teacher, I should have come back to you immediately but I simply couldn’t do so…! Because, I was fully tied up with a friend of mine, helping her to prepare an activity for her English Class for the next morning..! I taught her how to play this game called: “Problems” and “Solutions”…!  Did you hear anything about Me and that Friend of mine! I hope not :-P   (Ok, I’m just kidding as usual. Moreover, you told me then that I LOOK SO SERIOUS, didn’t you? So, that’s why I’m just trying a little harder today to inject some sense of humour here. Is it working, Dear?!)

After putting in my two pennyworth regarding “Yin and Yang” the other day, I completely forgot about it. When you told me on Monday that you did exactly what I said and it turned out to be highly beneficial for your students…, I went speechless, not because my idea worked but simply BECAUSE you really took all the trouble  and executed such a challenging task perfectly well. This is the kind of teacher I always have my greatest admiration on. God bless you for being one Excellent and Dedicated teacher.

I’m also very happy to hear that my short article regarding “Yin and Yang” was useful to that student of yours who’s going to enter a Medical University. Aren’t we blessed that we could really contribute for the betterment of the students in our charge! You are one fine example for that rare kind of teacher! Congrats, Galina!

Well! Regarding the prize your students asked from me for becoming the winners of my challenge, I’m caught in a real dilemma..! On one hand, I sincerely wanna buy something and give to the girl and on the side I couldn’t do so because there’s no way I could see you and hand over the prize to you. How unfortunate, I hate myself…!

Galina, thanks for the message. Now, let me go and search some nice stuff (Animated Cartoons) for you. So, see you later….! Bye!

[I was about to type in this message on you comment box, and that's when I saw the latest message from you. Though this letter may sound a little irrelevant now, I think you can still read it to pass your time. Am I right...?!

    Regards,

    ~ GS ~

PS – Something funny just crossed my mind, he..he..he..! I’ll share with you some other time if I remember, Ok?

  • Hi Galina!

I assume that you're looking for a cartoon picture that you wanna give to your students to do some colouring. If that's what you intent to do, problem solved!

Here's one website I sorted out from many which will be a big help to you.

The details and the things you have to do to get the job done is as followed:

Click this Link to go there: http://coloring.ws/fantasy.htm

You'll be taken to the HOME PAGE where you'll see the *Heading:

    "Fantasy Based Coloring Book Pages"

Just below this *Heading you can see all different categories available.

    Like...

    Abominable Snowman Coloring Page

    Aliens Themed Coloring Pages

    Centaurs Coloring Pages

    Fairies Coloring Pages, ….etc.

For example, if you click the title "Fairies Coloring Pages",

A few thumbnais (small pictures) of the drawings will be displayed.

Now, just click the picture that you like.

It will take you to that particular picture where you can see it in Full Size.

(There's one I like: A fairy holding a big flower, and she's surrounded by a few more big flowers. This is good picture for colouring as the students can use variety of colours.)

If you like the picture you've chosen, click the word [Print]  which you’ll see right on top of the picture.

(If you're not satisfied with that picture, you can always go back and choose another one.)

That’s it! A COPY will be PRINTED for you.

Sorry Galina, I couldn't show you a sample picture here because there's no way I could copy and paste it here.

Hope this will solve your problem, provided the issue in hand is "colouring".

    Good Luck, my friend! Bye!!

    Regards,

    ~ GS ~

  • Hi!

It's my pleasure to help you, Galina! Please don't ever hesitate to ask me if you need any favour from me. You have all the rights to ask. Just remember, I'll stand by you...

Now, regarding the cartoons for your students...! I need more information, dear. Like, what kind of cartoons? Related to what subject matter? What should the cartoons reflect? Is it for asking the students to colour the cartoons? What should the cartoons reflect, and so on. I'm clueless.. Please help me!

Can you come back to me now, so that we'll have ample time to get it done! Thanks.

    Waiting for you...

    GS

  • Galina!

I couldn't stop myself from laughing when I read your postscript (P.S) just now! You said, "You're so serious today!" I don't get it..., what's that? :-)

  • Hi Galina!

Here's an idea that you can try...

While I was waiting for my “GCE O Level” results (that was several years ago), I worked in a Primary School as an attachment teacher for some time, guess what - teaching English! :-D The students were so much attached to me for I used to do a little magic, tell humorous stories and of course play language related games. Here’s one such game you can play with your students.

The name of the Game is: Problem and Solution

You told me that there are 18 Students in your class; that’s great because we need Even Number of students to play this game.

Divide the class into TWO GROUPS – GROUP “A” and GROUP “B” (It’s better if there’s a mixture of Girls and Boys in each group).

Let the two groups sit far apart, across the class (if possible each group in a single line) one group facing the other.

Give each student two pieces of blank paper to write. The idea of the game is, one group writes down “Problems”; whereby the other group writes down “Solutions” (or “Answers”, in other word).

You decide which group is going to write “Problems” and which is going to write “Solutions” Let’s assume that Group A – “Problems and Group BSolutions

Here’s what exactly each group does:

    STEP 1

    Group A: (Problems)

Each student must write two problems! (You’ve given each student two pieces of paper, right? Thus he/she must write one problem on each piece – total: 2 different problems)

Tell them that the problems they are going to write must be unrealistic and humorous (funny)!

Let me give you a few examples; they can write something like:

A1. I want to become a famous singer like Michael Jackson, not only in Russia but all around the world. To achieve that dream what should I do?

A2. I always wish how nice it would be if I don’t have to read any books. Instead, when I just touch the book, all the facts must get into my brain immediately. Is there a way to do it? If so tell me please…!

A3. I don’t want to die! I want to live forever and I shouldn’t get old at all. Life should be happy all the time. What’s your solution, my friend?

A4. I want to live deep down in the ocean, breathing normally like we do on land..! And also I should not get hungry at all. What will make it possible?

A5. Instead of sending emails to my friends I want to go straight to them through the telephone line and stand in right in front of them so that I can talk to them in person. To cross over in such a way, what’s your suggestion? …etc.

  • Group B: (Solutions)

They also write something funny and illogical…! But instead of problems they’ll write “Solutions”. Their Solutions are not for the problems you’ve just mentioned! They’re only examples given by you! In fact, Group B doesn’t know what exactly Group A’s is going to write as their problems!

Therefore, Group B members just simply write down any suggestions but funny in nature: For example, they can write... (I'm giving you 5 different solutions)

B1. Get five rotten eggs. Break them and pour into a blender. Add a cup of chilli sauce and a handful of broken glasses. Now, blend the whole thing for ten minutes. After that take the mixture and apply on your stomach. Do this for 7 days…!

B2. Go to the zoo. Climb over the fence and get closer to the lion. Open the lion’s mouth and shout ten times “I’m Genius”. While doing this make sure you keep twisting the loin’s tail.

B3. Look for the tallest coconut tree around. Climb to the top on your reverse (head down – you bottom up). Once you reach the top, howl like Tarzan while beating your chest repeatedly like an Ape. Three minutes later just jump straight down, you head first.

B4. Hold the ceiling fan tight. Ask your little brother/sister to switch on the fan. Hang on there fo half an hour. After this get down, take your school bag and start walking straight to school. Make sure you whistle all the way.

B5. Read the newspaper holding it upside down. At the same time keep pouring coke cola into your ears…  etc.

    STEP 2

Ask the students to roll their papers (like a cigarette stick). Each student will be holding two rolls, right?

Next, place two empty boxes in the centre between Group A and Group B. Let’s Name the boxes: Box “X” and box “Y”.

Ask Group A to drop their Problems (the rolls) into BoxX” and Group B to throw their Solutions into BoxY”

    Now, remember this:

    Group “A” = Problems   @   Group “B”  = Solutions

    Box     “X” = Problems   @   Box     “Y” = Solutions

    STEP 3

Shake each box well so that the rolls get mixed up nicely.

Now, ask a student from Group A (Problems) to get Box “Y” (Solutions) and take it over to his Group (Group A) and let each student pick two rolls of the Solutions from the box.

Whereas, at the same time a student from Group B (Solutions) gets Box “X” (Problems) and take it over to his Group (Group B) so that each student can pick two rolls of Problems each.

Do you see the point, Galina? Group A which wrote Problems earlier is now holding the Solutions.

Similarly, Group B which wrote Solutions earlier is now holding the Problems.

Nobody knows what the problems are and what the solutions are, except the writer himself/herself!

REMINDER: No one is allowed to open the paper and see what’s written there at this point.

STEP 4 (This is where the fun begins)

A student from Group B (let’s say Gabriel) calls out the name of another student from Group A (let’s say Galina). Both Gabriel and Galina stand up!

Gabriel opens the roll and reads out the problem in his hand. (Meanwhile, Galina can open her roll and get ready with the answer!)

Once Gabriel has finished reading his Problem, Galina will start giving her Solution (she’ll read it from the roll in her hand)

    Here’s the whole idea:

The Solution given to Gabriel’s Problem by Galina would turn the whole situation something really funny! Because nothing is pre-planned: Most of the time it will be very interesting to see how Galina’s solution gets along very well with the problem posted by Gabriel.

Now, the next student reads his problem whereas the student he picks will read the solution. This goes one until all the problems are told and solutions are heard.

The objective of the Game is we’re asking them indiresctly to write a few sentences in English but in an Entertaining Ma
