I failed..I failed my upper English entry test at the university I was transferred to last month. I was a little painful and sad. I need to take it again to be eligible taking other classes for my major. I feel something going off in my way now. It's very annoying and uncomfortable...I thought I would pass the test due to I did well. However, I got a perfect score on my writing part. I did a lot of wrong answers on the multiple choice questions...oh God..so dizzy..Being at the US for 3 years...I

Read in English with Tara

TaraI love reading! One of my favourite stories as a child was Anne of Green Gables. This book was written for both children and adults to enjoy. In my opinion, these classics are the best types of books for adult English learners.

Anne of Green Gables is set in Canada (my country). Have you heard of Anne? She is a dramatic red-haired orphan who moves to a farm in Prince Edward Island. P.E.I. is a tiny province on the east coast of Canada. The classic itself is a bit difficult to read. It was first p

I invite my friends here to write and assemble a story with the above title: Salman The King and An Elephant. with our words and imagination concatenated. This story can be long or short it all depends on your participation.easy way, each of you just write one sentence, which in turn will form a complete story.I start:One day the king salman, sitting under a pine tree

Is Music Important to Humanity?

I believe that music is important in our lives. In modern day life we are surrounded by music at various times of the day. At times we may hear no human-made music, but still hear the music of nature. Some may argue that the "songs" of birds, insects and frogs are not music at all but just communication. To that I respond, What is music if not communication? It can be the communication of excitement or sadness. It can be communication of joy, longing, or a religious message. Regardless of the con

La Nina

The rainy season has started here in the Philippines. After the wrath of typhoons last year, more people now are conscious on how to be ready once a typhoon hit their lands.I believe taking initiative is a must if you want have an idea to prevent the destruction of our lands. One way is to dump our garbage in the right places. People should not throw their garbage in canals and drainage. These could cause flooding and flooding causes a lot of water borne deceases such as diarrhea, typhoid fever,

Dream Within a Dream

I went to see Inception last weekend. It was shockingly amazing! After the movie, I just kept wondering did I really in the reality or in a dream. The movie is about how to enter one's deepist dream which is ubconsciouosness, and plant a new memory so that the subject person will change his/her mind of doing things.I guess we all have the same experience that sometimes we can sense that we are in a dream while dreaming. I had the experience like I suddently realize that I was in a dream when cha

Ten Year-old Girl

I went to tutoring Chinese on Friday afternoon as usual. My student was a 10-year old little girl. Her mother is Chinese, but her father is American. Althourh she is half Chinese, she can only understand a little Chinese, not to mention speaking or writing in Chinese. I have been teaching her once a week for almost a month. She is one of those sweet and well-behaved student, but would easily lose her attention while learning. Besides Chinese, she is also studying French, piano, clarinet and sing

All of us who have studied languages discover words and phrases with more than one meaning. I am a native English speaker and have been surprised in my own language when visiting other English speaking countries. Many years ago my wife used a phrasal ve
