Our Mind

I've discovered that our mind can make us sick too. Our thoughts can also create a war in the middle of a paradise. Sometimes our mind acts like an untamed horse or like a typhoon creating more chaos where that's not necessary. Instead of giving us clarity, peace and good answers; our mind can go wild making us feel mad or sick in our body.

Do you have control of your mind, or are you letting your mind control yourself?

Let me know whay you guys think.

A Delicate Life

Life is something beautiful, but is also delicate and easy to lose at any moment. We usually don't realize that, because most of the time we are surrounded by many distractions. But life is not a distraction; it's an opportunity to do what we came here to do.

Human life is like those beautiful lilac colored flowers of my cactus plant, they take months to grow, and then to blossom, and when they grow up and open their petals, they just live for one day! because they don't resist the sun and hard climate of this world...even a drizzle can kill them after a while. Who could imagine that those delicate flowers come from those strong, hardy cactuses, full of thorns?

I think many people are like those Rebutia flowers; This world is so hard for them.

Mimi The Turtle

This is Mimi, a survivor of the last strong earthquake on September 19th 2017. Mimi lost his home; a glass aquarium that fell down and broke into a hundred pieces.

That time, everything happened so fast, and everyone was running to get outside as soon as they possibly could, but I couldn't leave Mimi and the other fish behind, so I went back for them, however despite the floor being slippery due to all the splattered water, and the latent danger of many pieces of broken glass spread everywhere, I managed to quickly roll up a rag in my hands and take Mimi and the other fish into a bucket with some water, while the earthquake was stopping.

Nowadays, all of those tropical fish have passed away, but Mimi is still there, smiling and wanting to have a sunbath everyday. When the weather is nice, I take it from its new glass aquarium and I put it into a large plastic tub to let it enjoy the evening sun in my backyard.

We are both survivors in one way or another, we have gone through difficult times and we have survived. Friends are still there to help us and give us a hand when the going gets more difficult, or when things are going out of control. Sometimes, when we feel that everything has come to an end, that we've reached life's final curtain, a friendly hand appears to help us in the last moment.

So, everyday when I see Mimi, I remember that everyone deserves a second chance to be happy in this world.

Education and Status.

In the morning, when I saw this picture, many thoughts came to my mind.  To get education is totally different than to get a certification. When we want to learn something, it really doesn't matter if our school is nice or not, the most important thing is to learn what we consider important or vital to our life, and learn it well.   Certification and status are totally different matters.

Keep Faith and Hope

Okay, this is a short message for everyone who are going through tough times:

It doesn't matter if the weather is awful and cold, or if people around are in a bad mood or grumpy... keep faith and hope in your heart, then move on. Bad weather and bad humor are temporary...may your will and fancy to live persist until your last breath.

Good luck everyone!

Couples in Love

Normally at first glance, a classical couple looks similar, sometimes they have sames tastes, same careers, same style of clothes, same musical preferences or even same political party or religion, but in essence, they are particularly different and unique. A couple is like two completely different worlds who decided to spend time together having a great time creating something new and learning important life lessons during their time as a couple. Differences and similarities are blended in a wonderful formula.

Different Worlds?

A couple is about two different worlds, these "worlds" are people with their particular background; their own culture, education, ideas, believes, dreams, fears, prejudices, experiences, expectatives, goals, and physical differences including age and mental and emotional maturity and so and on, who decided to stay and share things together. Therefore, with all of these ingredients mentioned before, if we mixed them in a couple, we may get as a result a very delicious and wonderful elixir, or maybe an insipid beverage, or probably a nasty and sometimes addictive dangerous poison, as known as toxic relationships. If you are thinking about a milkshake, that is a good example to illustrate that idea. When people are dating with their significant other, I think that might explain why they usually say whether or not there's chemical attraction.

Listening without Judging

This story is about a typical couple that is having problems of communication and what happened when they talked about it.

Diego and Priscilla.

A month had passed since they started a romantic relationship. Diego truly loved Priscilla and she started to feel something special for him, they decided to become a couple because they always had had a good and supportive friendship and they got along well together.

One day, Diego called Priscilla and after a few minutes, Diego felt that Priscilla wasn't doing well, the nature of their conversation was odd and aloof, nothing special to say in that conversation, it was like suddenly they would had lost trust in each other. There was some silence while they were on the phone. When they hung up, they felt that something was happening and that it wasn't good. Diego felt so confused and over the course of ten days he stopped calling Priscilla and Priscilla did the same with Diego, no more phone calls, no more messages, nothing at all.

Their relationship was going through a period that many experts categorize as a state of"limbo".

Over that period of ten days, Diego and Priscilla were dealing with difficult emotions, they were upset, confused and thinking about their future together as a couple, but what should they have done in that situation?

Diego and Priscilla didn't want to lose their relationship, but they were not able to make the first step to make contact. In fact, they had fear and they didn't know what to do.

After the lapse of ten days, Priscilla sent a message to Diego, she was worried about him and she wanted to know what happened to him. Diego responded quickly to her message, because he really wanted to talk to her and find a solution to his anxiety and make amends with her.

They made an appointment, in a café that was halfway between his and her house, (a neutral zone).

They talked and talked for a long time. After three and a half hours of talking, they felt happy again because they opened up and shared what was on their hearts and talked about what they really wanted in their relationship, they were able to dispel any kind of doubts between themselves and they talked about their own fears and their true feelings.

Diego said - I am sorry for having put you through some tough times and for made you suffer so much. Then Priscilla said - I am sorry for my immature and childish behavior.

After that, the couple realized the importance of having open communication with constructive dialog, they would find many solutions to their problems, and they could wind up on good terms if they listened to each other. Both said; The power of listening without judging is amazing.

The Dark Tunnel.

Sometimes fear appears in moments when the unexpected happens. Yeah, we would say that now we are adults and therefore have a lot of experience and there's nothing to fear and so on...but the truth is that most of us still have fear hidden in some nooks inside ourselves.

That night, I was walking alone on the sidewalk of a big avenue named Tlalpan (this avenue belongs to one of the main boroughs of Mexico city called "Delegaciones", it is important because of its conservation as a forest and also other ecologically sensitive areas. The name Tlalpan comes from the Nahuatl language, and it's formed by two words-terms that means Earth (Tlal) and Upon/Over (Pan).

My tiny apartment was on the other side of the big avenue and the only way to get there was by crossing under the roadway through a long tunnel constructed under the avenue. Along that tunnel, there were some little stores; from convenient stores to clothes stores and a barber shop.

A few meters before reaching the tunnel, there was a blackout. The time was ten after nine and everything was in darkness. Blackouts in Mexico are common and some of them have last for hours. Then, I had to make a choice, stay there and wait for the power to come back on, or go through the dark tunnel and get home in a few minutes. I really wanted to get home early, because I was tired and at that moment it was starting to drizzle. So I made up my mind. When I got to the bottom of the stairs, I was following the weak light from the screen of my old cell phone (one of those old Nokia cellphones from which I could only send and receive local messages and phone calls). I hesitated for quite a while because it was completely dark.

All stores were closed and nobody was there, not even a single person trying to do the same as me; crossing through that tunnel to get to the other side."Well, it's just a tunnel"- I said to myself. Then I started to walk trying to ignore those negative thoughts about what could happen in a dark tunnel at night. I was full of fear, but I just focused my attention on the poor light of my cell phone while I was walking at a slow pace. "Try to not look to either side, but just follow the light and watch your steps."- I said to myself. When I reached the end of the tunnel I had an unforgettable feeling of success, I had beaten my fears!

That experience helped me to mature a lot, and grow up in my life. It taught me about trusting myself and being more confident, but the most important lesson was to have faith in God.

Daydreaming.

Having my own garden is not a bad idea. But I can go further. I imagine myself living on a very large piece of green land surrounded by apple and peach trees and also living by a big lake around like those luxury houses around of the Kalamalka lake in Canada, where I can go fishing or swimming. Oh yes, I know... I am daydreaming again. The funny thing is that my reality is totally different.

I live in a tiny apartment in the city, and having a garden could be a little difficult, but not impossible. Nonetheless I found a solution for my daydreaming about gardens. I realized if I couldn't have my own garden, I could manage to have some pots of my own. So I visited the local market and I bought a little pot, soil and some coriander seeds. It wasn't expansive, just about two bucks. Maybe you are wondering why I bought a coriander and not a rose or another kind of beautiful plant? Well, my answer is that I really like Mexican food, and coriander is important to give it a good taste and basically that's it.
After some weeks, the coriander seeds germinated, and now they are growing rapidly. It might have been nice to have bought an adult plant, but I wanted the baby seeds, I want to see the miracle of life in my face day by day. Now I need to think about how to solve that issue about having a lake...

How much time do you spend daydreaming during the day? Do you like spending time wandering in the clouds like me or do you prefer thinking about realistic goals and practical solutions?

"When everything fails... when everything is gone, daydreaming is the one."

A New Kid on the Block

Hello everyone. I recently discovered this site and it seems like it let me write some ideas through this blog, and share them with the rest of the community.

I like the idea of writing and using my grammar skills to tell you some anecdotes, stories and crazy thoughts. Of course, I don't pretend to become the next Shakespeare, I think no one wants that in this website, do they? well who knows...I am just a simple guy trying to improve my grammar skills and comprehension of english language and meeting people with the same interest.

Finally I would like to say that my grammar is not perfect, (you know...in this world, who is perfect by the way?) but, any kind of corrections and suggestions by you are very welcome. I know that you are so smart and kind to help a student like me. :)

Thank you everyone in advance and I hope we can become friends to keep practicing.
