Tree felling

Taking down a tree single-handed. I was even crazier in those days than I am now.

  • But if it is for good, then the tree must have understood. :)

  • Actually I agree with you Anahita. Sometimes I didn't like to cut trees and I felt the tree was sad or angry at me to :) strange and a bit scary :)
  • some how I feel sorry for the poor tree... why it must be cut like this? wasn't there another way for the owner of that house to avoid the possible danger of falling tree? this is kind of cruel to destroy a alive thing just for the sake of one person's satisfaction. :-s (yeah, probably I am sounding like a moron to you but I love trees and forest, seeing how those are getting cut by us is just sad *sniffs* )
  • That time, I wasn't even born yet. Even though u didn't had crane, the chainsaw u used, seems nice.
When I was little. We had a Russian chainsaw Druzba. (Дружба бензопила). It is probably the most cursed saw model all over Russia.
  • You are right Hardi. These days everybody is afraid of everything. This was 35 years ago. Of course, I took precautions, but I did not have a crane and I cut the upper branches into small enough pieces not to do any damage when hitting the ground, or me :) This was a cottage way up on a Welsh mountainside and it would have been difficult to get a crane up there anyway.
  • You did work in tree cutting company? I said u were mad at that tree or at yourself, because a normal person wouldn't do such a dangerous thing. At least not single-handed. I think now-days they use also one or two crane to do it. The pieces of stem without leafage, hit ground very hard (Without leafage, there should be less air resistance). They will sure sunk into soil when let to fall. If there's a building near, they might end up destroying that buildings basement. So u need either to cut very small pieces, or lift them down with crane. Did your tree sunk into soil when falling? :D Maybe there's still some pieces of stem behind, that have become a part of that buildings basement. ;)
  • I wasn't mad at the tree. This tree was very close to a house and the customer was afraid that it would fall on the house one day or something like that. But there was no room for me to fell the tree in one piece (ie, cutting it at the bottom), so I had to climb it and take it down in small pieces. Normally you would do that work with two or more people. That's why I say I was crazy to do it alone. An accident could easily happen.
  • Doing something like that. Were you mad at that tree? Or perhaps at your self.
