When there is Faith

Hello, everyone!
I am back to EC!
Sharing with you my original piece.
This is a poem I wrote last month.
I hope you'll like it.
Please read on....Happy weekend!

When there is Faith

Things go wrong, yes they do
Sometimes you think it's all about you
You look at the sky for answers
But most of the time it's in closed eyes in prayers

The travel sometimes go long and wide
Seems endless no matter how fast the stride
But if you slow down and watch inside
It's in the silence that our hearts confide

There are battles we choose and ones we ignore
We sometimes stop sailing to go ashore
The halt does not mean we wish to quit
The choice to fight we see deem fit

At times the sun seems ceased to shine
We wonder how this life defines
But then again we just have to wait
Better things come when there is faith

Why does make up matter?

I started to love making myself up when I was 21. What seemed to be a simple 'feel good' habit became something more sophisticated as I got older.

Undeniably, it is me- in my profile- wearing make up. Well, not only make up but perfume, too. I was unconscious of the effect of make up to me and to the people around me or those who see me. I put on make up for myself; just to feel good.

As I move from one make up style to another, I become more confident or self-assured. I feel more powerful and I can face people better.

Make up reflects our personality. But is make up really important?

There is a research by a Harvard psychologist which proves that make up helps how people perceive women. Nancy Etkoff, together with her team, conducted a study among women and said, "Faces with the glamorous and sexy make-up looks were perceived as more competent, just as likeable, but less trustworthy than those same faces without make-up. The researchers concluded that the stronger make-up looks equalled greater social power. In further research, the women with the sexy eye make-up look were also rated as more daring, sociable, and even healthier than women with no make-up."

Also, according to them, women with make up has a higher self-esteem, with more positive moods, and with greater performance. "They thought they were doing a great job at work as well as looking good", the research says.

So it seems that make-up helps how we are perceived.

Do you agree?

According to research, many women marry the wrong man.

This is under the impression that 'he will change', 'he is rich' and 'I love him'. As time goes by, things did not change, he was not rich and she did not love him.

With children involved, it is always hard for them to walk away from the marriage.  The sad part is that they have been dragged down by the emotional burden, trapping them in a situation that makes them dysfunctional.

To walk away is sometimes not an option because they want to provide a happy home and complete family to the children. This results to sacrificing their own happiness and personal welfare.

Undeniably, this is a fact that many women face. Yet, they are afraid to fail in front of their children and to hurt them.

You married the wrong guy....and indeed, now what?

In Malaysia

My move in Malaysia was caused by a better opportunity in my teaching profession.

I will share with you one experience I've had here.

It is not a surprise that British English is more recognised ( notice the s there) here than American English (recognize). I am sure you all know it.

Having said that, terminologies are also much much different from where I am from, the Philippines. Our first teachers are the Americans. Although it was a short stint for them in my country, the American teachers had greatly influenced our education and language.

The very first conversation I had at McDonald's is a classic example of this difference. We say take out in the Philippines, which means to me to order and pack it. So I said: 'For take out, one double cheeseburger, please.' The cashier frowned a bit and asked, 'Is it take away?' Not realising that I used the American term, I replied, 'For take out'. With a little confusion in her face, she pointed to the paper bag where she would place the food, and said, 'To take away with this, right?' I smiled and said, 'yes!' We were both relieved of this understanding. From then on, I started using 'take away' for a faster order :)

A different word-only one word, which means the same thing to me, created a confusion. It also caused a little queue ( I say please fall in line, they say please queue).

There are more differences in British English and American English. I hope you can share them here and maybe share your experiences with them, too.

Internet Scams

The internet has become the venue for 'scammers' to execute their evil plans. This usually happens in the on-line dating websites. Bogus pictures of men and women are used to entice their victims. These pictures are often attractive ones taken from different persons on google. They attach their fake names and start chatting to their fortune away. And there are different ways that these people scam.

The most common scam is the love scam as they call. As mentioned earlier, these men and women post beautiful/handsome pictures to get the attention of their victims. They also use effective language of love. They convince their victims to have a virtual relationship with them.

Once their prey has fallen in love, they start to ask money, cell phones and etc. The innocent victims, most of the time give in, of course in the name of love. But as soon as these culprits have amassed money, especially, they go missing, in short unreachable any more.

Another form is the business partnership scam. They post to have a thriving business of all sorts. The scammers even create a website of their bogus business to appear authentic. They persuade their 'prospects' into investing a considerable amount of money with a nicely written sheet of revenues, earnings, profits. Once victims are lured into depositing money, and the transaction is successful, again, they go missing.

Education has also become part of scams these days. This approach pretends to offer scholarship to students abroad. The scammers once again pretend to be associated with big colleges and universities in different countries. They also have their website for this. They penetrate the internet by assuring the 'candidates' that the scholarship is possible. But on certain conditions like depositing money to an account for the speedy process of the papers and a guaranteed scholarship grant.

These scams have been going on, yet nothing much is done about them.

But I guess we could only be vigilant as individuals to stop scams on our special way.

Our Thoughts

I believe that our thoughts control how we feel.

In most cases, what we think creates our monsters or angels.

We can choose to be happy or sad, but this choice comes with how we think and what we think. We tend to entertain thoughts and we seldom select them. Being selective with thoughts that we entertain contribute to how we feel. If we select good thoughts, then we feel good. If we entertain unpleasant thoughts, then we feel bad.

It is then a matter of what kind of thoughts we wish to have which eventually affects the feelings that we also have. Switching off bad thoughts results to turning on good feelings.

What can you say?
