I'll be posting the PRONUNCIATION (in the form of PHONETIC SPELLING) of a WORD everyday. My objective of doing this activity is to raise awarness among our Club members the importance of learning SPEECH SOUNDS and their SYMBOLS if they really want to solve their pronunciation problem.

Now, this is what I want you to do! Look at the PRONUNCIATION for the day and type out the related WRITTEN WORD. I would appreciate it if you could also add your VOICE RECORDING of the pronunciation. It will help those who don't know how to read the PHONETIC TRANSCRIPTIONS. Make use of this opportuntiy to improve your pronunciation or help others with their pronunciation. Here's your very first PRONUNCIATION.

You can use the "voice recorder" below to record your pronunciation and play back the recording to listen to your pronunciation. This voice recorder does not save your recordings, thus you can record your voice as many times as you want until you perfect the pronunciation of a word.

If you want to RECORD the PRONUNCIATION given daily and SHARE it here with us, you can use the online tool called "CHIRTBIT". Check the home page of this group to learn how to use the tool.

NOTE: For your easy access and practice, I have compiled all the PRONUNCIATIONS posted below at the PHOTO page of the Group. Check it out!

What is the written word of this spoken word? If the above 'writing' seems strange to you, it is the pronunciation spelling of an English word. It's called "phonetic transcription". You could see the phonetic transcriptions beside every word in your dictionary. Learn how to read them if you want to solve all your pronunciation problems. Ask me how you could acquire the skill if you are interested.

This pronunciation spelling looks more like its written word. Thus, it shouldn't be difficult for you to type out the word.

    • I think it's a beauty salon.

    • That's right! Good job, Anastasia!

    • hey i'm new to this but i think i can answer it. It's Salon

    • You're absolutely right, Amano. Thanks for your participation! I'll be seeing you with the next pronunciation.

Yes, the pronunciation is very short, seems to be an easy one and it is indeed. But the written word could be a little tricky to some. Do you know the word? If you do, why don't you typed it out here?

    • Hey Gabriel!

Yes is it little bit tricky. :D

      Yatch :)

    • Great job, SNR!
Some confuse the consonant sound /j/ with the letter " j ". They are not the same. Take note of the following phonetic transcriptions.
      jet .... /dʒet/
      yet ... /jet/

The // and /əʊ/ in this pronunciation are called "gliding vowels" or "diphthongs". A diphthong is a combination of two vowel sounds that makes a single sound. Thus, do not pronounce a diphthong as two different sounds. Now, what is the WRITTEN WORD of the PRONUNCIATION?
