First, I would like to take the opportunity to WELCOME you to the PRONUNCIATION PROBLEM & SOLUTION group. By joining the group, you've made a wise decision to improve your pronunciation. The aim of this group is to provide a platform for members of the club to share ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION related Information, Activities, Quizzes, Ideas, etc. So, please don't hesitate to make fruitful contributions for our mutual benefits! “Share your knowledge. It is a way to achieve immortality.” ~* Dalai Lama XIV *~

BY THE WAY..., have you been yearning to solve your PRONUNCIATION PROBLEM once and for all but not sure what exactly to do? I conduct ONLINE PHONETICS CLASSES for individuals who are seeking for HELP. I'll teach you the Speech SOUNDS, Sound SYMBOLS and how to read the PHONETIC SPELLINGS. A PHONETIC SPELLING is the PRONUNCIATION of a word in the form of text. Anyone who could read the PHONETIC SPELLINGS printed next to each word (e.g. pseudonym /ˈsjuːdənɪm/)  in the dictionary could PRONUUNCE ALL THE WORDS listed in the dictionary accurately even without listening to any audio pronunciations at all.

What you see below was taken from the Oxford Dictionary. Do you see the symbols in a pair of slashes after each word. Those are the PRONUNCIATIONS of the related WORDS. I have posted a whole new discussion devoted to PRONUNCIATION in the DICTIONARY. Check it out, guys!

This is the transcript of the above voice recording of mine.

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.

  • Hi, everyone! Thanks for extending me the invitation to join this group. I am trying to boost my English pronunciation and intonation, and I look forward to participating in activities that support it. By the way, in what kind of activities should I engage here to improve my pronunciation?
  • Hi, Gabriel & Group! Thanks for letting me in! I´m sure I´ll enjoy and learn a lot from you all!
  • Hi Gabriel, Nice to see that you are still active with (especially) pronunciation issues. As a matter of fact I owe you so much for getting familiar IPA and learning how to use a dictionary and based on your advice Oxford dictionary became my favorite. Even I did a detailed research about phonetic and its symbols. Friendly, you made me love these subjects, thanks again, I remember that there was a group which was led by you, also you personally oversaw our labours, fruitful days we had, Gabriel, see you again, stay safe and regards to everybody....
  • Hey Gabriel: Footprints in the Sand is really good. May I make two suggestions?
    1. Subtitles for those of us poor of hearing
    2. No background music for those of us poor of hearing ^^

    Is this the right transcript?

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,

I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,

    • Hello, Mr Josef!
Thank you very much for your compliments and the suggestions. I appreciate them!
The above transcript is slightly different from the one I recorded, but I like yours more than mine.
I've re-recorded the poem and also added your transcript right below my voice recording as per your suggestion.
      Please check them out!
    • Thank you so much Gabriel. As I get older my hearing gets worse haha and I find that background music makes hearing words much more difficult, if not impossible. Thank you for carrying me by removing the music and adding the transcript :) Your voice sounds very clear, thank you.
    • My pleasure!
  • Hey, this group is really useful. Gabriel, Did you make that audio sample "Footprint in the sand"
    • Thank you, Kesaru! Yes, that audio is my very own voice.
  • Thanks a lot to the group inventor.

PRONUNCIATION and SPEECH SOUNDS

English Sound SystemA learner’s effort to master the pronunciation of English words could be hampered if there is no proper understanding about the “English Sound System”, if you ask me! You may argue that there are other factors which are the real obstacles in accomplishing this quest, for example…                  Mother tongue influence,                      The ineffectiveness of the English syllabus used in schools,             Lack of opportunity to speak in the…

Story Reading/continuing and Recording.

Hello, Gabriel and Ec members! I have noticed when it comes to improving reading skills many people prefer to read stories and novels… mostly fictions. So why not to read and record only stories? Yes, you have heard it right. In this forum, I would like to invite EC members to read the story and record their voice. A story can be SHORT STORY or any MODERATE-SIZED STORY  or any NOVEL. I believe, starting with short and moderate-sized stories would be convenient for all of us. How to read the…
