Hello, my name is Mel

I would like to improve my intermediate level of English to upper intermediate and eventually to advanced.

Does somebody have some good strategy on how to do that?
I am reading books, listening to podcasts but I have a feeling that I am not going any further in my English skills.
How do you learn and the most important remember new words, how to motivate yourself to be consistent.

I hope I will find some of the answers in the English Club.

  • Yes, I think you are right Onee-chan about writing. It is an essential skill because the way how you think is the way how you construct the sentences on the paper or in this case on the computer screen. I will definitely try to participate in some discussions here to improve my writing skills.  About the exercises and grammar, I used to study English like in the school but I am feeling that is not the way to improve the most because I was putting too much effort to keep a rigid plan of exercising and stressing myself about grammar and doing things right. I believe that it is not about to have a good or wrong answer and to be good in grammar I believe that it is about living your life in English and use it as much as you can. Practice makes permanence.

  • Practice, Mel. I guess, besides reading and listening English, we should practice writing. Doing exercise on grammar is also needed if you want to go further.
