Writing Challenge: My EC Holiday Cookbook

Date & Sesame Sweet ( Kola Konji)

This is a local sweet of South West of my country, I learned how to make it from one of my friends, the recipe is easy.

Ingredients:

Dates 250g
Sesame 100g

Remove seeds from dates, roast sesame seeds in a pan on medium flame for 4 min, remove from pan and cool, then put pitted dates and sesame seeds in bowl of food processor, process the mixture until mashed, take a small amount of the mixture and form it in the shape of a ball, roll in sesame at the end.
In traditional method, pitted dates and sesame seeds were put in a wooden mortar and crushed finely until oil extract from the mixture, but it is very difficult and time-consuming.
Notes:
You can make other kinds of date truffles using different spices and nuts for different colors and flavors such as cinnamon, almonds, cashew, pistachio, walnuts etc.

  • Hi Tara!
Thanks for your nice comment; I'm so glad that my blog is of your interest. It's good to know what kind of dates to buy before shopping. There is no need to buy dates with raisins; there are three main kinds of dates: fresh dates, semi-dried dates and dried dates, but fresh dates are ideal for this sweet. They are rarely exported because of their short shelf life, I wonder if they are available in Canada or not!
Thanks again for reminding me of punctuation problems, I studied "Writing Prompt~Directions" carefully to correct them.

  • Wow! Your presentation deserves 5 stars! It's hard to believe this recipe only requires two ingredients. I am going to try it because I just got a new mortar and pestle. First, I'll have to find the dates in the grocery store. Are they kept with the raisins? I am not much of a grocery shopper. My husband does all of the shopping in our family!

Can you spot any punctuation problems in this sentence?

  • Hi Ahmad!

Hahaha..............not to make it at all. Better be safe than sorry :D :D

  • Hi Coral!

Yes, this is a perfect sweet for those who avoid eating sugar and butter.

If you haven't a food processor, you can use a meat grinder instead.

  • Hi Ahmad!

Thanks so much for your nice comment and the like. When a food is not tasty, the cook is guilty, and the punishment is to eat all the food :D :D :D, but if you use Persian dates, I'm sure your sweet is so tasty that you may bite your fingers too :D

  • Hi Saba!

I like sweets, especially natural sweets. This is a healthy sweet because it has no sugar and butter and it's a good snack.

BTW, I haven't a food processor, what should I do?

  • Hi Smith!

Thanks for your nice comment and good question. There is no need for flour, but I forgot to write that sesame seeds must be ground in a mixer then added to pitted dates and process finely in a food processor, then we have a sticky paste and can form it spherical.

  • Hi Jasmine!

Yes, they are yummy. I tried this sweet once I was in a party and that night I learned how to make it. I made this sweet for the first time to participate in Writing Challenge.

  • Hi Noa!

Lol, if you remember to buy dates, Please buy Persian dates, they are of good quality.

  • Thanks for sharing the recipe.

It sounds like a delicious snack. I don't really get it, though - besides sesame seeds and dates, do we need some flour or paste to shape it (spherical)?
