One of the questions that might be asked in a typical teachers employment interview, is expressed as following:

Suppose that you are a teacher and you enter your classroom which you wanna teach, then when you want to start, all the students mock and sneer you in this way that when you turn your head they turn their heads simultaneously or when you rise your hand, they do the similar action all together. In this time you advise them but they rudely ignore you and continue their behavior.

In this position what would you do?

My answer : If I was in this situation, after talking to them and to be ignored by them, I would kick out only the first row of students and continue my teaching !!  : )

My reason : In fact they have gotten allied together and we should break their alliance. Prejudice and injustice are two points which plays the main role in breaking their alliance, and kicking out the first row of student, could motivate the outer students to expose the students total plan and provoke them against inner ones.

What would you do if you were in that situation ??

  • Dear T Mal, Thanks for your complete answer, I think so that it is an effective way as well, anyway you are a skilled teacher. Also your method for controlling the class discipline (that the students at the beginning of the year establish and vote on the class rules themselves) is so beautiful.

  • Lol Coral, good job :D  :D

Then would you tell me what do you wanna read out for high school students that they would repeat !?

In addition, if your class was math class then what would you do !? :)

    thanks for your comment

  • If I see my way is not effective, I leave the class and ask the high school counselor to come and to talk to them, It's her duty to learn them to be quiet, .........surly such students are crazy and need a psychologist. My duty is just teaching normal students not crazy students.

  • Hello Moha, long time no see!

What a challenge to all EC teachers! Classroom management has always been a tough issue to be discussed here and everywhere. All teachers from time to time come across with disruptive students or learners. They face with the problems what to do and how to handle with them!

I don't want to boast or as Tmal once said Bia don't bbrag about your values here'':), but anyway, I have been teaching at school for fourteen years  and haven't ever come across with such situations, all for one and one for all, when they all become one, that will be really tough....

When i first take any class to teach I don't start with rules, I start with introducing myself and getting acquainted with them, treating them as grown-ups, at the second lesson i introduce them with my rules...but here I learned something new, yes I think, why not , TMAL has made a good suggestion: let them decide what rules should be implemented in the case of misbehavior....

In this particular case I would draw a funny face on the blackboard and then a second unhappy face, in that way i will draw their attention to ''emotions in english'' , they will calm down , believe me!

  • If the students were children I would inform them that I would be contacting their parents to inform them of their behavior.  I would then inform them they will all be in detention that evening.  The first person to speak would be sent to see the headmaster to explain their behavior.  The rest of the class are now given the choice of taking part in the lesson or follow the other person to see the head.

I have never had a case of poor discipline from a class because at the beginning of the year they establish class rules.  I get them to make suggestions of what rules they would like in the classroom by dividing them into small groups and guide them into making suggestions such as suitable punishments for arriving late in class.  Swearing in class, bullying, not showing respect, mobile phones etc.  It is surprising how strict students can be.  We all vote on these rules and then print them out and each students signs to say they want there rules to apply to their class.  The students can also appoint a class spokes person should there be any grievances. The teacher must earn respect from students they should not expect it as a matter of course.

  • I wrote a blog about " kinds of lies " ......  in that moment I try to use lies that help me to pass the interview. After employment, I kick out the first row of students :D :D

I just kidding, I think the best way is Saba's reply for all levels.

  • Thank you all for your beautiful comments

Sharifa, you mentioned good point, the age of students is so important. I hope your students are afraid of difficult homework and exam, but if not so what should we do !? :)

Saba I think you have selected so beautiful way, but I think it is effective for primary school, what would you do for high school students !? :)

Luzzi, so you think that if we were more strict, then it has worse effect. Good idea; yes if you laugh them maybe they get tired and do not continue but if they used to do that, then what is your long-term solution ?? :)

Also do you think the solution of laughing, is effective for all levels (primary, guidance and high school students) ??

  • I would start laughing and would say I do appreciate their unity :) I guess in such situations the more strict a teacher is, the worse effect it has..
  • I sit down at my desk calmly, then open the textbook and read it out loud, after each line I pause....so that the students can repeat after me......In this way they do both, imitate me and learn the lesson.

Nice blog Mohammad, thanks for sharing.

  • If I were the teacher , I will deal with them in strict way . If they are still kids I would give them extra homework and kick some out , call their parents . But if they are teens I would talk to them what they get from such stupid actions and will give them so difficult homework and exams .
