Translation of "If" by Rudyard Kipling

I see this nice poem in the Galina’s blog "If" by Rudyard Kipling, then it inspires me , because I feel strongly every single line . I think the poem is written for mankind in general , not only for the poet’s son .
Some exemplary poems like this one , should be read not for its nice rhyme or rhythm , but we would rather read them worthily for its right attitude and significant content.
I search for the poet’s life. I have known that he was an English poet, received the 1907 Nobel Prize for Literature.
I translate this poem into Arabic .I admit , I am not perfect but I do my best . many thanks .

if you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build them up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son

  • Galina ,
The poem is rich in every line , almost every single line in it has aroused elevated moral thought thank you my dear friend, your nice blog has indicated me to this amazing poem. Your wonderful comment have been dropping subtle hints about your pure core, really I am lucky to have you as a friend .

  • Anele
according to my view the English poem was so excellent in all its aspects.
in attempt to rediscover what was the main point of every line , I was between two critical choices ; if I gave the exact meaning of the line , I would lose the strong effect of equivalent Arabic line then became broken Arabic line . if I made Arabic line more stronger, then I would lose exact meaning of original English line .so I mediate between them and chose quite different methods in my translation .

My Arabic alphabets look to you like an embroidered letterings , yes they are so nice letters and every Arabic letter gives a certain sound .it is unlike English in this aspect.
You are a good poet Anele . I still save some of your nice comments in my library. thank you dear .

  • We read poetry with our eyes ,listen to its beauty with our ears and understand the words with our mind ,but the best poetry must always be felt within the human heart,a deep understanding of our humanity ,to bring us to a time we once lived or dreamed of being...'

Tawfeeq, I can see the deep understanding to the poem and a perfect translation using eloquent and meaningful words .It's really great to see those  lines on Arabic ..

Thank you so much ..have a nice day!

  • Wow! Tawfeeq, you've done it! You've made your own translation of the poem! When you first mentioned about it ( maybe two weeks ago) I thought that you only would try and it would take a lot of time you for doing it. But you proved that you're a really talented person! I'm so impressed with it, as it's not a short rhyme but a serious poem with a lot of difficult words, expressions and so on. And you managed to do it in such a short period of time. It's a pity that I don't know Arabic and can't read your poem. But I think people whose Arabic is a native language will appreciate it! Tawfeeq, doing it , you contribute to your own culture and help people to learn more about the world classics. Keep it up!
