My Grand Ode to British Braces

Dear friends! After the thorough analyzis of the test on American synonyms, I can't help posting this blog. I think this word was the hardest of all. In fact, most of men know what braces are and wear them from time to time to make the pants not hang. We often put them on under suit coats/jackets for our ladies not to be confused with our outfit. I realize some ladies may not know this word, but all men should if they want to look good in public places. So, I'd like to share with you the answers I got as the synonyms.

Here they are:

1. retainers

2. gird

3. grippers

4. fences (unbelievable!)

5. belts

6. stripes

7. holder of shirt (it is the best!)

8. straps

9. clasps

10. catches.

Let me tell you that all are wrong! And most of people who took part in my test speak very good English! So, for you all to know, THE AMERICAN WORD FOR BRACES IS SUSPENDERS.

I hope you will remember it buying braces in America.

Thanks for your attention!

  • My dear Eve! Thanks for this nice comment! Sure, I laugh if it is funny! Look, FENCES, HOLDER OF SHIRT! What to fence or why to hold a shirt, is it going to fall off a man? If so, let's glue it to him! It is just unbelievable! I  can't help laughing reading that! But there is nothing offensive at all. Laughter prolongs our lives and makes learning not so boring. I believe most of learners have good sense of humor and I know for sure, many of them do! So, let's laugh at our mistakes, but not forget to correct them!

    Happy weekend, dear!

  • Thank you, my friends!

Onee-chan! I have never thought that part of men's clothing may be unknown in some world regions. It is not something just British or American, it is the thing used by men all over the world. So, what can I say: LIVE AND LEARN! Nothing more! But is was funny, wasn't it? Ha-ha!

To be sure, I consulted 5 different dictionaries and they all give us only two words: braces/suspenders.

  • Thanks for the elaboration Danny!

  • Ha..ha...ha....

Mr. Danny, When I was googling for this braces, I got the picture. But I even don't know the name in my native. :D :D

Thank you for the precious lesson.

  • the  vocabulary is an enrichment  ...thank you for sharing  it with  us  ...

  • Dear Nadira! This blog is mostly for men and for those who took part in my test, but I think if you enrich your vocabulary with one more word, it is OK, isn't it?
