Do you like reading news or making audio recordings for MyEC? Why don't you join our latest video challenge?

For our new activity, I would like to invite you to make a video of yourself reading one of the news from MyEC feed. The news are recorded by our admin, Tara Benwell. You can listen in the way she pronounced and narrated the news. This would help you to be familiar with tone and inflection.

Practicing reading in front of the camera would help us gain self-confidence and improve our speaking skills. This is also one of the best ways to spot any flaws in our speech and make any development to attain excellent reading skills.

To join this activity, please follow the instruction.

1. Choose a news from MyEC feed. You can find other news when you click the more button of the "NEW On EnglishClub feed".

2. Once you've chosen a news, practice reading it until you're ready to record it. You may practice speaking in front of a mirror or a webcam.

3. Record yourself reading the news using your video camera, mobile camera or a webcam. I used my iPod Touch for this activity.

4. Save your video and upload it on our video gallery with the title,

    Video Challenge: News Reading.

5. Please provide a short description of your video and invite others to join the challenge.

I know you can do it! Break a leg! (Good luck)

  • Hello, Molemane!

Thank you for commenting! All of our past video challenges are still open. It would be brilliant to see you participating in the future. Feel free to share it here or in our video gallery if ever you've made a video recording.

    The best of luck,

    Robbie

  • Thank you for dropping by to comment here, Arif! Please bear with me for my super duper late reply. :)

  • hi Robbie,am interested to join news reading(video challenge) if it's still there, i can see it was long back introduced when i new nothing about MyEC by then, sorry for taking you back

  • Hi Robbie,
I can share some unique ideas that will help you, but nothing is for free (^_^)

    Ideas are on sale lol

    Wish you all the best!
  • That's a great news, Teacher Tara! It's quite challenging for other members to come up their own videos. I'm still optimistic that some EC learners might try the challenge in the future. The very best of luck in your presentation! : )

  • Next month I am going to be doing a presentation on how English learners and teachers can use EnglishClub's Listen the News resource. I will show our Audio Speaking Group, as well as Gabriel's video! I will also show Well-Wisher's blog posts. It would be fantastic if we could get some people to participate in this challenge in the next few days! Do you have any ideas to convince people to do this?

  • Hi Gabriel!

I'm surprised to see you here! Thanks a lot for taking the time to leave a comment. I agree with you that we had fun doing the activity. That actually inspired me to move the activity to the next level which is to practice reading great articles/podcast via Skype. I truly believed that speaking the language as much as possible would improve one's confidence and speaking skills.

You're always welcome to share your creative masterpieces here!

    Have a great week ahead!

    Robbie : )

  • Hello, Teacher Tara!

Thank you for leaving a comment. I'm grateful to hear that compliment. Will definitely wait for your participation! Practicing reading the news with our language partners via Skype would be a lot of fun since there's on the spot corrections, or exchange of reactions.

    Wishing you a fantastic weekend!

    Robbie : )

  • Hi, Robbie!

I still remember the fun we had reading news on Tara's 'Be a Newscaster'! Basically, I did many audio recordings of my voice. However, the video that I made was a thrilling experience! I would like to share here that video with our fellow club members. I hope you don't mind! Thank you!

    .

  • Great activity, Robbie! You are an excellent moderator. I hope many people join this challenge. It would be fun to see some videos from a few years back in the news archives.  I'll try to join, too. Stay tuned.
