Are you a chocolate lover?

Chocolate has a variety of brands, textures, and types. But, why is it one of the favorite desserts of every person? People, young and old find eating chocolate is an indulging experience. It actually depends on the brand and type we eat.

I think one of the best types of chocolate is the dark chocolate. Some of my favorite brands are Patchi and The Old Gold Original Dark Chocolate of Cadburry. Researchers say that eating dark chocolate (about 100 mg per day) would help prevent certain cancers and minimize the level of sugar and low density lipoprotein (LDL) in the body. LDL also known as the bad cholesterol, is the culprit behind some deadly diseases such as heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes.

Basically, chocolate is came from cocoa, a rich plant that contains flavonoids and anti-oxidants, the same chemicals found in coffee beans.

But what makes the dark chocolate a good dessert? Aside from what I mentioned above, there are some interesting ideas why I love this food. First, chocolate is a mood enhancer. Have you experienced tiredness in work or school, but after you munched on a chocolate, somehow it made you feel energized? Chocolate increases the serotonin in our body, the reason why we become happy, active or enthusiast.  Second, chocolate helps our body to quickly recover from hunger and stress. Soldiers bring chocolates whenever they have to go on a mission especially during a long travel or in deep forests or mountainous areas. And third, chocolate has a very soothing smell. The aroma of it is relaxing too. That's why it is use as flavorings on cakes, biscuits and beverages.

While we like to munch on of this dessert, we should also take consideration that too much consumption of it (or in any kind of food) could harm our health. So let us remember to balance everything we eat. Moderation is key.

To summarize this, chocolate has a lot of benefits to our health. It is in the way we consume food and how we follow our diet. As long as we incorporate exercise with what we eat, we can attain better mind and body. As we all know, we are what we eat!

  • Hello Jean,

How are you my friend? I'm thankful for your comment here on my blog. You really shared historical facts on how chocolate was used as trade during the Spanish Era. You mentioned some information related to ABRIL's blog. It is exciting to know how chocolate evolved throughout the years. And I'm sorry to hear that you have allergic reactions to chocolate. I didn't know that eating chocolate can cause allergic reactions until you mentioned this to me. I hope someday you'll have a lot of chance to indulge in it without any allergic reactions.

By the way, thank you for sharing how chocolate was prepared in your country. I'm sure it is very delicious. Can't wait to have one he he... I'll be glad to see the photo that you'll send to me.

Thanks again for the information you added hear. I'll take note of it. Have a great weekend!

  • Hi Robert! In my country, our Mayan ancestors used the (cocoa) chocolate seeds as money, they exchanged the seeds for animal`s furs or fruits. When the Spanish arrived and saw that the Mayans prepared a hot beverage with crushed seeds and hot pepper they were astonished, later when they tasted it and discovered the deliciousness of this beverage they took some seeds and fruits with them and gave it to the Queen.. that`s how the chocolate traveled from our continent to  Europe, of course that with the years, Europeans have improved it, creating all the varieties that we know.

But here, in my country we still use a mix of melt cocoa and we immerse the frozen fruit with a wooden stick..but not only fruit, we use bread, marshmallows, nuts.. mmmm it`s delicious.. I`m going to send you some pics..but the most ironic of all this is that I`m allergic to chocolate:(.. I love it but I can eat only one in a week or something like that.. if I eat more I get a terrible headache and skin rash..

  • Hello Sevinc,
Wow! Nice compliment.... Would that means we will have free dark chocolates? That would be heavenly.... LOL!

Thanks again for posting your comments here. I'm glad to hear something from you...

Take care and have a great weekend....

  • Hello Sevinc,

Hi my new friend? How are you doing? Just want to say thank you for commenting on this blog. Glad to hear that you're a chocolate lover too. It's good to know that chocolates have different varieties and flavor according to how it is made. Russian chocolate is new to my ear. Do you have a particular brand of that chocolate?

      Have a pleasant day!

  • Hello Jane,

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts on my blog. I'm glad you also like chocolates but at the same time you know how to moderate eating of them. It is important that we know the benefits that we could get from eating not just chocolates but any kind of food. The good thing is, the internet has a lot to offer in terms of providing information of food that we like to learn about.

I really appreciate what you have written here. Thanks again and I hope you'll continue to be aware of your health so as the health of your family. Cheers!

  • I have to admit that I am 100% chocolate lover! Eating chocolate can be another way of releasing stress specially if you tried eating those expensive good chocolates. Whenever I ate some of it I always ate it like it was my last time to eat it. I savor the sweetness and the aroma of the chocolates. I don`t have favorite brand of chocolate. For as long as the chocolate taste sweet and delicious  I cannot wait to eat it. But eating too much of chocolates can be risky to our health. Even if I love eating chocolates I always see to it that I eat them with moderation. Chocolates have high sugar content which is not good to people with diabetes. And since my mom died with diabetes, I had to discipline and restrict myself not to eat to much chocolates.
