Did you ever wonder why the comments were closed for a certain blog?

You may have assumed that the comments must have been closed by a moderator or the admin or the system itself, which may have puzzled you because you didn't find anything wrong with the blogs or the bloggers. In fact, I was puzzled too, and I tried to consult with Tara (the admin), and it turned out that the bloggers themselves disabled the comments.

There are a variety of reasons for them to do this. They may not want to receive any comment. You may think the comments are so desirable, and sometimes you write a blog just for receiving some comments. Most of you may find it fun to get all of the comments on your blog. And, you may wonder how could some bloggers choose to disable the comments on their blog.

It's possible there's something wrong with the Privacy & Comments setting. When they tried to publish a blog, they may have unintentionally chosen the "Just me" for the question "Who can comment on this post?"

The moderator or the admin, however,  does flag or delete blogs which are inappropriate, illegal, or spam, or contain sexual content.

  • Hi Mr.Bob,

    Thank you so much for the comment. Yes, we may have been referring to the same blog. Communication and interaction here between members are absolutely vital. So, I can't see the point of their being here, either.

    Of the privacy settings, I agree with you. Yes, it can be a problem. Hopefully, Tara has noticed it, too. Or, we could bring it to her attention.

  • I wondered exactly the same thing Doc. We are both probably thinking about the same blog. I read it right after it was published and was going to leave a nice comment but saw the message that comments were closed.

    You and I discussed privacy settings before and we've seen how people accidentally block comments or moderate comments. This harms their chances of making friends because most people will not come back to a person's page if they are being blocked or moderated.

    The safest thing is to leave privacy settings alone and leave them open to everyone. What is the point of being here if you will block everyone?  It is especially insulting to be sent a friend request by someone and then have your "thank you and welcome comment" blocked.  It is best to set everything to public, in my opinion.

  • @Mishaikh

    Thanks for the comment.

    @Rajesh

    Yes, Luci has already answered your question.

    @Komala

    You really have a point there. They just keep writing - don't really care whether other members will read or even leave a comment on what they just wrote.

    @Luci

    Thanks again.

  • Rajesh, read my comment and you will find answer for your question :)
  • Yeah! I sometime be in awe of that u know. But why will are blog choose to restrict his or her blog to them self??

    There is no need for you (members) to post a blog if He or she don't need any comments or suggestions.

  • By the way, can Admins or Mods see the blogs which is set as "Just me" privacy setting? :)

  • I was wonder, too.
    Now I got it.
    Thanks a lot ES!

  • @noasl

    Yes, members have a choice. And yes, they may be afraid of receiving negative comments. In fact, just as you said, most of the comments are positive, encouraging or inspiring.

    @afro

    I assume you mean whether it's true a moderator or the admin does flag or delete a blog. Yes, they will flag or even delete blogs which are illegal, inappropriate, etc.

    @Luci

    So, you must be one of those who find comments attractive or who will be so frustrated if their blogs don't receive any comments.

    @Anah

    But it's possible there's something wrong with the Privacy & Comments setting - they may have done this unintentionally.

    @Seeker

    Thanks!

  • Exactly that's what the question I was asking to myself a few days ago, when I saw a blog post saying "the comments are closed for this blog". I try to read all most every blog post to encourage a blogger but when I find that comments are disabled, my interest of reading their blog vanish. It's totally their choice but they should care and face criticism as well as encouragement.

    Thanks for the share Sir.

  • ehm ehm, once I accidently chose this option and then was so sad that nobody apart from Expector left comment :D well, yes I agree with noas, it is their choice but I won't ever understand why some people don't want to read any feedback, I find it sort of antisocial...
