Alexander II emancipated peasants in 1861 and Abraham Lincoln abolished slaves in 1863. They both were quite close fiends and they were opposed slavery. So they negotiated to abolish slaves almost at the same time.

  • The exhibit was about Alexander II who had emancipated peasants in 1861 and Abraham Lincoln who had abolished slaves in 1863. They both were quite close fiends and they were opposed slavery. So they negotiated to abolish slaves almost at the same time. I didn't give a talk there because only the ambassador gave a talk there an his assistant sang a Russian song =)
  • It's good to know the friendship between Russia and the US, sharing the same, humanistic cause! What was the exhibit about? Did you give a talk there?
