  • I read  that the Statue Of Liberty once was a lighthouse ,that's why the torch is the symbol of enlightenment .I don't know if that is true but the torch has a great meaning !

  • Yes, we took the commuter ferry to get a good look at the statue. It's free! It was a beautiful day, so it was a very enjoyable little trip. The island has been closed to tourists since Hurricane Sandy. You can read about the reopening that will take place on July 4th.

  • The statue never was painted that I know of.  The bronze outside of the statue turned blue over time because of the copper in the bronze.  I know there have been repairs in recent decades and maybe some paint was applied to match the original patina.

  • The color of the statue fades quite a lot. I wonder no one suggested repainting it.
