I read that the Statue Of Liberty once was a lighthouse ,that's why the torch is the symbol of enlightenment .I don't know if that is true but the torch has a great meaning !

The statue never was painted that I know of. The bronze outside of the statue turned blue over time because of the copper in the bronze. I know there have been repairs in recent decades and maybe some paint was applied to match the original patina.

The color of the statue fades quite a lot. I wonder no one suggested repainting it.
