I just read this interesting article about Barnaby Jack, a computer hacker that maybe was killed when he said he wanted to demonstrate to the world on how a hacker can kill a person with a pacemaker using a computer and wifi.

I hope members can read this interesting article and then we can have a lively discussion.

I was just wondering why he wanted to tell the whole world how to hack and kill a person with a pacemaker? If he found a flaw with the pacemaker devices, is it more ethical and safe to demonstrate it to a close conference will all pacemakers' company rather than telling anyone and everyone on how to do it?

What do you think?

  • Hi Nighthawk, yes, even though previously he was known as "ethical" hackers, but what he was trying to do, as you aptly put, could bring a potentially seismic revelation and hence where the question of the ethic of what he's going to do.

The possibilities of various theories are really intriguing.

  • Yet another conspiracy! A mystery that is not going to get solved ever like many other high profile deaths!

Actually, I don't think it's the question of "being ethical or not" here. He had been demonstrating to the world the flaws in the security of computer operated devices, so that manufacturers could work and improve them. Such a person could be regarded as an enemy/friend by government, companies or even criminals, who could kill him for he refused to work for them or cooperate with them/or who staged his death to show the world he's dead and now are keeping him at a secret place. However, these are all speculations. Maybe there are people who know the reasons of his death(if he's really dead), or maybe nobody knows how he died or if he died of some natural cause or was killed by someone. Only God know better...... :D

    • Yeah nida, only God knows better, but the possibilities of various theories behind his death (whether it was staged or real) are really intriguing.

Is he better dead to some people? Is he maybe he is more valuable alive to most?

    • AH_TK!!!!!!!!!! Only your girlfriend will kill you for forgetting to close the refrigerator. Now, move your fingers and click the link and read the article.  :-P Otherwise, I will harass you still. Hahaha.. I am persistent.

  •      Hi my dear, actually I read about Barnaby Jack death. Really it is a tragedy!! Barnaby Jack helped many companies and people to improve their security system. I have a deep feeling that One of these companies, Tranax and Triton, might involved in his death because, he caused a lot of loss for them by  hacking the security code  of the  bank machines which the both of the companies famous for selling them. Thanks, really it is a lovely topic.

    • Yeah.. I think those big companies are "afraid" of Barnaby Jack. The flaws that he uncovered and going to expose maybe too big for them. However, I still don't understand why he wanted to use a conference to expose the flaws?

Was he not tactful enough to handle those giant corporations? Some people, even among the hackers, thought that Barnaby Jack was not "ethical" enough to expose the flaws for the benefit of everyone, but rather his satisfaction.

I'm waiting for the follow up on this news and what's the verdict of the inquest of his death.

    • OHMY AH_TK, excuses! Excuses!...

Click it and read it. LOL. As I said... I promise I won't harass you for a few days if you do that. So, now ... move your fingers and mouse and click the article. LOL

  • Holy cow! Surely I am not among them. :-P

  • Well.. the reasons you put forth are reasonable. LOL. It rhymed. Reasons and reasonable.

Money and adulation are strong reasons for people to do things that they do. Even Robin Hood do it for money and adulation from his fellows.

  • Holy cow! Adlet has spoken (well in this case, written, LOL). Before I say anything more, let me say thank you for participating Adlet. Now I will keep my promise not to harass you for a few day. LOL.

Well, I believed that he's more valuable if he's alive, but I just wondering why he wanted a grand exposure to do what he believed the flaws of those pacemakers?

Does he wanted the adulation more?

Yes, like you said, maybe he was killed for nothing, like millions people all over the world, but the timing of his death is really screaming "conspiracy". LOL
