IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT ...

I saw a movie last night where much of the world was destroyed by some serious calamity. The forests were killed and the food supplies were gone. In preparing falafel and hummus for tonight I had a thought about losing a favorite food item or seasoning completely and forever. For example, can you imagine a world without garlic, or tomato, rice, noodles, or maybe curry? So in response to this wild imagination of mine, I have come up with a discussion topic for our group. Please think about this seriously and try to determine which one food or seasoning item you would have trouble being happy without.Salt does not count because it is actually necessary for life. This is a good chance to share thoughts on the importance of certain food items to each of us. So can you imagine a world without garlic, or pepper, or butter, or sesame Tahini? You can start your comment with: "Imagine a world without (your item here)" and continue from there or be more creative and begin some other way. What is important is to tell the group which item you would miss the most and which food dishes would be hurt if it was to disappear. You can tell us your top 3 items if it is too hard to narrow it down to one. This should be fun to hear what each of us feel we need the most for our cooking. Please do give this a try and let's have some fun.

  • Very true. The Cacao bean was a major find for the Europeans when exploring the "New World". If that tree ceased to exist we would have no chocolate and many chocoholics would suffer the world over :-(

Imagine a world without dark chocolate. What would we do? When we're stressed or upset or just in a bad mood, what other food would bring us such total comfort? Without that smooth, rich, dark taste, I personally wouldn't be able to loose myself in it and escape from the real world, even for only a minute.

Loosing dark chocolate would be a sad thing.
