Tool Quiz #006

This tool is also made of wood for the most part. It stands on the floor of a shop due to it's size. What can you tell by looking at this tool? Do you have an idea of how it works?

  • Drilling or boring is correct. This was called a boring mill and it bored ( or more precisely reamed) out the hole in a metal tube that had been forged by hand. Once the metal tube was completely straight and the hole precisely reamed smooth, one end could be plugged. That end had threads cut into it and a matching plug was fitted (called a breach plug). This was now the breach of a gun barrel.

  • If those long drill like roods on back also belongs to this tool. Then it could be a drilling tool, to drill hollow pipes or smth.. Otherwise it could also be something related of making ropes, but I think it looks different..
