What do you say?

Do you know this word "Itadakimasu" ? It use in my country. Before we eat morning, lunch and dinner, we say Itadakimasu. I had heard what other countries say before eating. Other countries say "let's eat". If I don't say "Itadakimasu" , I feel to eb strange. What do you say in your country?

  • I say only "Bismillah" before eating or doing anything means in the name of God or Allah,

  •     In the Name of Allah the most Gracious the most merciful  as Onee have mentioned and after finishing  we say  " alhamdo  lilah  " thank  you Allah   .  Thanks for posting  this nice discussion  here  . I hope that we see lots of expressions  related to meal from  many cultures  :) :) :)

  • I usually say 'Bismillahirrahmaanirrahiim" means 'in the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful'.

When I learned Japanese language, I say 'itadakimase' as well just for fun with friends. :)

  • We say it only if we are having a meal together with somebody. If I eat alone, I don't say anything.

In Ukraine we say "Смачного!" = "Smachnogo!", which means something like English saying "Enjoy your meal"
