This website tells us that pigs likes rolling in mud because they need a way to cool down but they also like rolling in mud for other reasons too! Scientist believe that they roll in mud because it is luxurious and essential for their well being. They say it is 'hard-wired' in their heads since they evolved from fish and they simply would like to go back to water for their own comfort.  Do you guys believe that this is true or do you think this is just a whole lot of rubbish? Personally i think it is partially true for the cooling down and luxurious part but i do not believe they like mud because they evolved from fish.

  • I think, that I've heard that pigs don't roll in any mud. They prefer one that contains right amount of clay. It's to help them to get free of parasites(bugs). When clay drys it falls off together with parasites and dirt.. So it's a way to clean them selves.

I remember it was also that. It only help to get free of some pugs. It doesn't help to get free of sticks who have already bite in and hold tightly on.. To get free of those pugs pigs may go to some peaty bog into water.. there the water supposedly have such PH, that pugs don't like... if thy stay there for a while it helps them to get free of those pugs... generally, it's believed be specialists, that pigs are very clever clean and smart animals.

    • Yes i agree with that theory too, just that the website did not say anything about parasites or any sort of bugs. So i did not include this argument into my paragraph above.

But thanks anyways. Always good to hear some one who understands something.
