Your Avatar (profile picture)

When you look for friends on MyEC or in other social networks do you check out the grey heads? I don't. I usually skip over people who haven't uploaded an avatar. Making friends in a virtual world is already a bit strange. We can't shake hands or look into each other's eyes. However, when I can see your picture I feel like I know you a little better. I can put a face to a name. Even if you choose a setting or a caricature I will look at your MyPage. It will also make it more fun to chat.

If you change your picture from time to time, that's great too. I will get to know you even better. Your avatar can tell a story. Today, I'll change mine to show what season it is in Canada. Unfortunately, it is no longer the season of the photo to the right.**A slight "change of heart". On Facebook and other social networks it is very common to change avatars often. We love to see new pictures of our friends and family. However, on MyEC many of us do not know each other personally. If you want to make a lot of friends here it may be helpful to stick to one, recognizable profile picture. I need to find one that works well for me!"change of heart"=to think differently after time has passed

  • Tara, I think your current profile picture works very well for you.  I actually like it better than the one you had with the headphones on your head.  I just went back to my old profile pic a few days ago.  It really does help us remember each other, especially for those with very common names.

Maybe if we want to show our friends new photos, we would be better off sending a photo.  Another good way could be to make a temporary (1 week) change of profile photo and then revert to the original.  I agree 100% with you about the greyheads and also about the difficulties of recognizing friends if they make a radical change in their photo.

  • It 's very nice picture.

  • Agree with you Tara, I also stick with the same ID (name and picture) in order to be recognise by others easily. Well I changed my avatar, but it is still the same picture of a piece of cake
  • You are right Tara, I feel the same way. If someone wanted to know me but unwilling to show a photo, his or her attitude was questionable. I would feel like talking  to a wall.
  • I should say that I really liked Lynne's profile picture too. It's a neat idea!

I plan to change my avatar to show how different we all can be in different settings. My previous avatar on EC was one of me dressed as a pirate for the New Year Fancy-dress ball party.

My current avatar is just my serious self at home. :)

I agree that changing profile photo really makes the pages to look more interactive and full of surprises.
  • Beautiful picture, my friend! I agree that having an avatar is a good idea. I'll change my avatar as soon as I find an appropriate photo. We are now friends and I hope we can enjoy the friendship!
  • Thanks Tara! :-)
  • Thanks Lynne. I love your profile picture!
  • Hello Tara, this topic has a resounding tune in my mind. I like it so much. Thanks.
