Writing Prompt: Subjunctive Mood

Writing Prompt ~ Subjunctive Mood

Hi Carol,

I'm not sure if this is bad news or good news. This morning I went to see a doctor and it turned out there was nothing seriously wrong with my health - I caught a cold. The doctor suggested I get some rest, take some medication, and drink more water.  So, it seems to be neccessary that I take one or two days off. Thankfully, I'm feeling better now. I've learned my lesson, though  - it's vital that I keep working out or keep fit, especially when I'm studying or working in another city by myself. I should have taken your advice and taken good care of myself.  I wish I were home with you! Oh, it's high time I exercised, but I don't think it's a good idea to exercise when I feel uncomfortable - I had better go to bed early.

Miss you so much!

Tom

Note:

1. Do not confuse "subjunctive" with "subjective".

2. Don't forget to add the corrections tag if you really want to be corrected. Corrections are usually made in writing challenges.

You could write such a blog using the subjunctive. Let's work on this sentence:

"Actually, I acted as if I didn't need needn't that work but..." - you can use the subjunctive in the clause after 'as if'.

    Hope you can get it!

  • Hi all and my old friends, here is my trying.

I went a school to make master on my professional last month in Istanbul.

After finishing and getting my graduate, they made a suggestion that we work together.

At first sight it be wonderful but they requested timeless working, it was essential for this job.

Conclusion, it be finished before we start. I would accept if I were younger or live the same city also unmarried :) Anyway,

Actually, I acted as if I needn't that work but fact were different. ! I wish I were working.

    Apparently, it remain my dream.

    Corrections are welcome :)

    Selma,

  • Thank you for this great model! Our bloggers are having a tough time with this one! The subjunctive really is tricky.

Thanks for the comment. You can find 'Writing Prompt' in the column of 'NEW On EnglishClub' on MyEC's main page. Sometimes I write a blog after reading a new 'Writing Prompt'.

I'll go to check out your blog!

  • Dear expect or, I haven't heard this word before. I knew when for example we want to wish something, we should use "were" instead of "was", but I didnt have this much information about it. Thanks for your challenge that made me to go and search about it. I wrote one, please let me know about my mistakes.

Yes, you could try to write one. Many people hate grammar, but with more practice, you'll be able to write or say something that may not be natural but grammatically correct.

  • Good illustration of Subjunctive Mood.  Learners should try to practice and me too.
