Have you ever thought of plastic pollution? Where all this plastic go?.....How much plastic garbage is produced daily?
Plastic pollution is also referred to as “ White Pollution”, that has caused serious environmental problems. Plastic garbage pollute water, soil and even air, because they don’t break down naturally in the environment and therefore continue to exist and cause damage for hundreds of years. When plastic waste thrown into the ocean, it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces by exposure to the sun or other factors such as wave, sand action……those small particles contain toxic substances such as PCBs that are very harmful and eaten by marine animals, and then passed up humans through seafood. When tons of plastic garbage buried under the earth, again they are fragmented into smaller and smaller pieces, reaching microscopic size over time, remain everywhere and are almost impossible to clean up. They are light enough to be scattered by wind into the air and water and then absorbed by human body through breathing or eating.
Now, we can see how big is the problem…..but what should we do…..?
The best thing we can do is to reduce plastic consumption. Do you know that approximately 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide annually? In other words, more than one million plastic bags are used every minute. We must take some action or we may drown in an ocean of plastics.

How to reduce plastic consumption:
Here, I wrote 3 ways to avoid excessive use of plastics, you can add it.

1. Don’t throw away a plastic bag after a single use, wash and reuse it several times.
2. Don’t use disposable plastic dishes, instead use metal or glass dishes.
3. Carry your to-go mug in your purse avoid using foam cups.

  • Plastic pollution really becoming a threat to many marine wildlife as well as marine plants. As you said we should contribute our effort in reducing our dependency on plastic. For an example, rather than use plastic bags to carry our groceries, use recyclable grocery bags. Retail shops should use recyclable plastic bags if they have to.
