clubhouse

This month, let's build the house of our dreams. Since we are all part of an English Club, we'll make it a clubhouse. We will describe it together in the comment section.

For this challenge I need writers to do the building, landscaping, painting, home decorating, and even renovating. Each time you visit the blog, imagine that you have just spent time at the clubhouse. Answer this question: What did you do at the building site today?

Here are some things you can do:
  • build a new room
  • plant a garden
  • add lighting
  • bring in furniture
  • add appliances
  • decorate and paint
  • put in new floors
  • add accessories
Here is some useful "house vocabulary" for the challenge:Rooms in a houseFurniture and decorAppliancesOkay, I'll begin...---------------------------------------------------------Today, I built the framework for the clubhouse. It has a basement, a main floor, and an upstairs. There are many staircases, but I'm not sure how many rooms there will be. The house is on a mountain overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There is a large open field behind the house. I have ordered 20 large bookcases, which will arrive tomorrow.----------------------------------------------------------What did you do at the building site today?

  • Tara, I once got a couple of parrots. But only one was smart enough to pronounce and willing to learn from humans. To my best of knowledge, there're plenty of parrots in Africa. Maybe an African friend will bring some smart parrots in.

The image of the clubhouse in my mind is getting clearer and clearer. It's a beachside white building - with a roof helipad, a garden, a swimming pool etc. So, I suggested Tara change the house picture (which looks a bit old-fashioned to me) in her original blog. What's the image of the house in your mind? A villa look-alike or otherwise?
  • You're right expectorsmith! Something is missing. Of course you would notice by arriving in a helicopter!(Thanks for the great laugh today.) I think what is missing is a...pet. We'll need a pronunciation parrot to help us hear our mistakes. He must be able to pronounce his "l's" and "r's" and "b's" and "v's" perfectly. He should also have a good sense of humour so that he can make us laugh when studying gets too serious. Does anyone know where we can find a parrot like this?
  • I just landed by helicopter on the roof of our house of dreams. What a remarkable view from there - where I could see the blue swimming pool, the palm trees, the colourful garden full of beautiful flowers and other tropic plants. Looks like a perfect retreat for honeymoon coulps? But it's our lovely clubhouse we're building together. Still something missing there? I could hardly wait to jump into the pool, though!!!
  • me, i want to build a swimming pool. But i will apply modern technique in this, it's not a normal one, it's like an onsen-pool with full of flowers. After hard working time, we can relax here then joy with a little champange and desserts.
  • Yes, every English learning clubhouse must have a Karaoke room. We can practise music together like The Gambler. I love Salim's idea about bringing flowers from our native country. What a gorgeous garden that will be. I'll bring a giant maple tree for the centre and underneath I'll plant some blue and yellow pansies. Ika, your white room looks fantastic. I'll stop by to read a book if I ever feel stressed out.
  • Wow , What a lovely house! After discussing about the social, culture, academic, world....we can cook and enjoy food together. We can enjoy the food from over the world at the balcony and see out side. oh I like singing so I wish our clubhouse has a karaoke room so that we can sing together. Each person has to sing a song in his or her own language. at that time everybody has chance to study foreign languages.
  • Wow,our clubhouse is really nice but,I'm thinking about gym with swimming pool in it.We also can have steam room and jaccuzi there. We need to have shower-bath and lockers there.Just imagine that we can work out and then go to the swimming pool or steam room.
We will built our gym to help our members realize their goals .
I'm thinking about the latest cardio and strength training equipment along with a dynamic group exercise program that includes classes like yoga, group cycling, mixed martial arts, muscle endurance training..I hope after gym we can work more efficiently for our club.
  • As each of us can have a bedroom. I prefer to have a bedroom looked over Pacific Ocean and mountains. I will paint it with white colour which is decorated with light yellow sheer Ball-Fringe curtains with white solid-print valance on top. I will decorate the exterior parts of the windows with potted-plants such as daffodils.

The ceiling of my room is dome and movable too. I use a remote control to move the ceiling in order to see the stary sky at night. On the tip of the dome, I put some glass shields to protect me from snow or rain fall in winters.

I also add a set of twin bunck bed. I like to sleep with my best friends if they are OK with that. So, we can look at stary night sky and talk until we go to sleep.
  • Dear Tara,

I can play piano for you all and I know some of my friends can play other musical instruments too. We have a lot of talented learners here in our clubhouse.
  • Nafis, I missed your comment about the multi-purpose entertainment room! Does anyone play piano? We need a pianist now! And a clubhouse theme song.
