Many of us in EC may already know Salim, the handsome guy from Algeria, famous for his writings and his great love for cats. I haven’t talked to Salim before, yeah, but it can’t stop me from exploring who he is and how he was :). My interview today is about "Salim and his Childhood Memories".Childhood is the most beautiful time in our lives. It was the world of our innocence, of pure friendships, and of our dreams & imagination. So beautiful, isn't it? Let me discover some sweet memories of "Salim's Childhood".

Miki: Hallo, Salim. I’m Miki from Vietnam. We are friends in this club but I believe we haven’t talked to each other before. So, to know more about you, and also to do my "assignment" by Tara's challenge #13, could you kindly be the interviewee in an interview? The interviewer, of course, is Me ;)Salim: Well, Miki, it will be my pleasure to be interviewed by you.Miki: Thank you very much, Salim. So, let’s start with the earliest stage. My first question is“Who first taught you to read/write and at what age?”Salim: I started as all kids do by scratching some non sense drawings on everything, on notebooks, newspapers, books, and magazines. Then, at the age of "4", my father started to give me some notions about our mother tongue "Arabic" and how to write down the alphabet........and so on. Then at "5" I was sent to the mosque to study Arabic and to learn about the holy "Qur'an". It was there that I first started to write by myself and read what I wrote.Miki: Wow, great, great!! You started to write since you were 5, quite early. Actually, me too . My mother taught me how to read and write the alphabet when I was 5. And I thanked her for that. I believe you did it too, my dear friend.Okay, now we move to Friends. Who was your closest friend when you were 6? Do you still keep in touch now?Salim: Yeah, I remember him well because we still meet from time to time. His name is Hamza, and we grew up together because we were neighbors sharing the same 6 floors building. We spent good times playing together in mud, doing some inventions by everything we found thrown on the ground, and many other things that this space is too tight to number them all.Miki: Haha, you are so smart and active, guys. I am really curious about what your “inventions” were. Hope you’ll tell me about them someday, ok? Also, I’m very glad that you both still keep in touch now, which means true friendship never ends. Now, a little about emotion. Tell me Salim, did you have a "silent love" during your school years? ;)Salim: During the school years?? hhhmmm, let me remember ............May be I felt something for someone like everybody do but I don't think it was something that we can describe as "Love".Miki: Yeah, I agree, it’s not “Love” actually. I just want to reveal about your very first “affection”, guy. It’s the combination of complex feelings inside and outside. Very memorable. Hmm, I think you still “owe” me this answer, Salim.Common, let’s go to the Career. What was your "ideal job" when you were a boy? Is it your current job now & why did you choose it?Salim: I was all the time dreaming that one day I'll become a leader. You know that kids have an innocent mind, they think that it's so easy to rise and become someone known. Then, while growing up, I started admiring the work of teachers and the domain of teaching because it's so enriching. Let me explain… to teach means that you have to be up-to-day. Information changes so rapidly and teaching methods change, too. So, there’s no chance to have a spare time. Now I work as a teacher of English at different levels, and as a translator in my free times. And I love it.Miki: I see, my always-busy friend :D. Now here’s the last question, which is about “Mistake”.What was supposed to be your biggest mistake/regret when you look back those times? If we could turn back time, what would you like to do then?Salim: Really embarrassing, but it's okay..................I had the opportunity to become a good sport's man but I let it go. My father is an executive manager in sports, and that's what makes me more mad.Now I try to remedy. I created with some friends and a master a sports association dedicated to martial arts. We'll start next month and we already have hundreds of members.Miki: Wow, an impressive number. Count me in, if possible dear.Ooops, time’s up, and we have gone through 5 questions with Salim about his very first Academy, Friendship, Affection, Career, and Mistake. There’re still lots of other things I want to ask Salim, but let me reserve them for another interview in near future. Thanks Salim for your truly sharing. I hope you have a wonderful time revealing of your childhood today...Enjoy our life, live for today, head for tomorrow, but never forget our history!! That’s what Miki want to say to you all. Thanks for joining us!!

  • I think I have said it before, but Writing Challenge #13 has been my favourite so far. It is so nice to see these friendships growing as you all practise your second language. I truly admire all of the writers who have the courage to learn the language to this level. It's amazing! This interview is excellent Miki and Salim. I learned so much about both of you. :) Good luck with the martial arts academy, Salim. Keep us in the loop.

    have a great time,

    -Nadiyah-
