I read an article which said that posting a video on Youtube about eating a Tide Pod, which is laundry detergent in a capsule, is popular among teenagers in the U.S. It is called "Tide pod challenge". The capsules are beautiful and good smell, so there is a warning on them for especially children in order not to eat them. But it is odd that young people, who would know it is dangerous, purposely eat them, isn't it? Two hundred and twenty people were carried to the hospital in 2017 after eating them and being poisoned. Fifty five people of them purposely ate them. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warns them that if they eat laundry detergent, it certainly causes poisoning symptoms. Why do they eat them?

These are not called capsule here. These are called pods. And there is no chance that a sane person even eat it as a try. We have been using detergent pods just to check whether these are economical or not. But at least we did not find them economical so discontinued using pods. I hear first time that kids/teenager in here USA eating them, (believed seeing paula's concern in her comment). Back there in Pakistan I came to know that boys are using sticking gum for their toxic addiction. Eating detergent pods surprised me, and beat myself on the unscrupulous of parents of such children.
Though I am not sure, probably it can save time that they measure the amount of laundry detergent.
Why in the first place this laundry detergent is sold in capsule.

Unfortunately Tam this has been happening in the USA. As to why??? God only knows. It is happening among teen-agers and college students. Usually it is a dare or a challenge which is the craziest thing I think I have ever heard of in my life. I can't imagine what possessed them. Plus this is the new generation coming up in this country. Scary huh? To me it is terrifying. For some of these poor disillusioned people, if they do not kill themselves first, might be our future leaders. Heaven forbid!!! I have to consider not only the one's crazy enough to do such a thing......but also those that posed that challenge or dare to them. I will admit that your blog is the first I had heard of this thing, so I googled it. It is unbelievably sad and tragic that this type of idiotic thing would even be thought of by what is considered reasonably intelligent people. I guess we need to rethink reasonably intelligent. I believe there is something totally unhinged about this type of behavior in regards to those who will do it and of those that propose it as a dare to someone. Hopefully the eating of such a thing and the suggestion to someone to eat it will have severe consequences for all concerned, if the ingesting of such a thing wasn't consequence enough for that one that did the eating. I have to wonder what this world is coming to. Heaven help us all!!
