Halloween is an annual holiday observed on October, 31. People from such countries like Ireland, Scotland, United States love very much this strange, unusual, uncommon holiday. Why?Let’s think together about it!The word “Halloween” means (signifies) “All-Hallows-Even” (in Scottish; “even” - evening) – the night before All Hallows Day. :-)We know very good all attributes and traditions this holiday!

But why do we do it? Why do we put these clothes on? Why do we game a role of witches, ghosts, etc... Perhaps, the main reason of this holiday tradition is our fear! The fear is a natural emotion. The reasonable quantity of fear carries us positive charge. :-) It forewarns about potential danger, help quickly to mobilize power (collect one’s strength) and react at the right time. It carries shaking up for our organism. Also the fear is a desired feeling: we can remember, how we seek for horror and we are thrilled with it. Why? What is the matter? The point is that, we need to adrenalin. We anticipate the portion of adrenalin with pleasure! Yes, perhaps, it is strange, but we were made in that way by the Nature!

Certainly, we can make (accomplish) parachute jumping, but it is a risk for our life! Why should we jump and expose out life to danger? We can have predesigned fright and get the dose of bracing hormone! Adrenalin = Shaking up = Activization of internal resources of our organism and psychic. :-)In the psychoanalysis there is a notion (conception) – “the complex of castration”. Men afraid to be castrated and so they are fond of “playing” with knifes, cutthroat razors, dangerous thrust weapon and another cutting items. :-)

Women afraid to be raped and so they hides in dark godforsaken place. :-)

In the folklore of different peoples there are horror tales about witches, ghosts, deceaseds, vampires, mermaids and another evil spirits!.. Psychologists consider, that, firstly, we have got the catharsis through these tales – we free self from our own fears, phobias and tensions. Secondly, we look for answers in outside circumstances (for reasons beyond our control), because we can not explain our problems and neuroses inside our consciousness – and the Mysticism is a very good remedy for it! :-)

Also we should remember Grandfather Sigmund Freud, who discovered the instinct of death (the Thanatos) – the attraction to death as a kind of neurotic instincts of person. Horror tales, thrillers and such holidays like Halloweem satisfy this instinct, but not disadvantage (prejudice) and not hurt our organism! :-)

  • Wonderful blog dear Inga!

Although I know since my childhood days, that people in America and Europe, celebrate Halloween by disguising as ghosts, witches, skeletons etc. But I didn't know about the real spirit of Halloween. This is a really very informative blog for me. I really appreciate your effort to let us know, what Halloween, actually is.

The blog is well written, and the choice of pictures is really great. I've noticed, that you came up with wonderful blogs, lately. It's really kind of you.

  • Thanks for the wonderful blog. It's nice to remember the original meaning of Halloween.
Here in the US, all I saw was kids overjoyed with a basket of cookies and candies collected. I should have scared them off...^_^
  • Oh! what a nice blog dear . I found this ritual very amazing espacially when people wear as in carnavals. I would love to participate in once but you've brought a diffrent view of it. I would like to thank you for that.
I am like deuce , by the way, horrors keep me awake or I spend the night shouting after having a nightmare. My poor husband is scared when he sees me watching a horror film he knows that his sleeping night will be full, haha.
  • Wow! You've worked very hard on this post! It is very informative. I hope you had a great Halloween.
  • Thank you Rosenmaiden I enjoyed reading it, so much information and it was new for me. You know I think it's true cause I like watching horror movies though I can't sleep because I'm scared to death but I still keep watching them. I'd like to go parachuting though I can't say that I'm not scared of hight at all. I love risk though I'm prudent and I like feeling pain sometimes, a slight pain ( when i cut a finger or a slight toothache ). It's hard to explain.
Halloween is just fun!!!! People love dressing up and love playing!
