To whom it may concern,

I have been the recipient of an impolite comment. Once. Big whoop! Who hasn't? It happens, hey sticks and stones, right? We all are grown-ups here (minus some of our cute and adorable members who have not entered the astonishing(?) world of adulthood yet), and we know that adults swear. Boy, do they swear! Sometimes it just feels right, you know? But the fact of the matter is that MyEC is for learning and teaching English. A step by step guide to swearing is not the priority here; ergo, the moderating option. It's not just the swearing, though. There are numerous factors that should be considered, here.
There are a lot of ways for anyone who does have the urge to use 'language'. I prefer it not to be on my blogs. However, constructive criticism is always welcome.
Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but I'm glad that this option is available. Please spare me the freedom of speech talk. Some members here decide to moderate for whatever reason they believe in. Mine is those enthusiastic and wide-eyed learners who are still wet behind their ears. Imagine their surprise when they read a comment that makes Jules Winnfield proud!

P.S. I need to reiterate that my previous blog entry was not an IQ test and/or a brain teaser or whatever. It was simply a comparison between kids and adults' reasoning process. While some grown-ups (myself included) focus on the problem and its puny details (e.g., the shape of that bus), kids try to find the solution.

P.P.S. I appreciate all the comments and likes, though.

Thanks a million!

  • Dear Lynne, you're correct. Misunderstanding is inevitable when the only communication strategy available is a keyboard. But, my case was not a simple misunderstanding. That person used language and it was vivid. Maybe it was just an old habit. But their point could have been taken without it. Thanks for your comment.

  • Dear Onee-chan, you got it. I'm glad that I'm a member of this wonderful community. You're the best.

  • we all have been educated to open our minds to accepting all the opinions wherever it come from,

so, probably the different opinions/suggestions/comments might help us see the things with different views, like you said that i appreciate all the comments...

  • Hi A7!

In my opinion, there are really some cases where misunderstandings set in, because our expressions in reality is incomparable to the way we do in writing. This is to say, that our facial expressions and gestures or body movements are omitted when we write, so we tend to misjudge the person behind the screen. I was misunderstood too for giving a remark which I regarded funny. I guess, this is one thing we all need to learn in writing; How to appear flexible in writing if we just want to show that we are really happy, moved, or thrilled.

Honestly, it's really difficult to estimate the kindness we have to show to other members here to avoid being misunderstood because there are also people who really has no other intention but to put a (certain) person down because of personal interest... :) and this is also not new even in actual.

Thankful that I can moderate my page comment and written works, for some  people may be thinking that MyEC is a small world but at a certain point they have to understand that we are still far after all. The distance still does exist.

Very well said, A7. Good blog.

    Have a nice day!

  • I'm glad that you always be here. Your ideas are interesting and your English is quite good to read. Indirectly, you teach learners like me. Thanks, Aseven. :)
