The Infamous Durian - King of Fruits

I have been meaning to write something in here, but too many words and too many topics been flitting through my minds that I do not know where to start. Someone said to me to focus and start something. So here goes my first real attempt in writing. This blog is dedicated to my EC friends that aspired me to take this step.

Durian- the King of Fruits

Durian – either you hate it or you love it. There is no two ways about it. Durian is commonly found in South East Asian countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and even Vietnam. It is regarded as the King of Fruits for most people. It has thorny husk whereas the flesh (edible part) is soft and yellow in colour or sometimes golden or even reddish.

The flesh of durian can varies in colour

During the fruit season, durian can easily be bought at the roadsides. People can either eat them straight away eat on the roadsides or bring them back home. Due to its thorny husk, opening a durian requires some skills otherwise accidents will happen.

Durian is very notorious and famous for being infamous among all fruits due to its distinct smell. There is no other fruit other than durian that revokes so many adjectives when trying to describe the smell. Some people said that the smell is very fragrant; some said it is just like a rotten cheese and some even said it smells like bad socks. And the worst part of all these, the smell will linger for weeks. Due to this reason, most of Asian countries had banned people from carrying durian in public transports and hotels.

Either you love it, or you hate it

Durian maybe the only fruit that is notorious for being disallowed into premises

  • Hello ELF-Noor, Hhuumm, Pakistan is probably not tropical enough for Durian. Same as the southern part of Queensland (Australia). But yes, we have mango growing in our back yard. They ripen in December. But Noaslpls is correct, maybe one day you will be able to smell them. If you are riding on a bus or train, you can always tell when another passenger is carrying Durain. You cannot keep it a secret!....

  • ELF-Noor, I hope one day you will be able at least smell this fruit. LOL. I love mango, and I can understand why it's called the King of Fruit in your country.

  • In our country, Mango is known as king of the Fruit.
  • I am seeing first time this fruits.. I never saw, not taste this Fruit..
Thanks for sharing this great Info info with us..
  • Barnaby Kyte, I was surprised that you like durian. Not many non-Asians can stand the smell and taste of durian. Yeah.. there are so many varieties nowadays, but I just love what we call 'durian kampung' - the original durian (more or less). Though the flesh maybe be a bit thin, but the taste is just heavenly. :) If you ever come to Malaysia during the durian season, try this and maybe 'Musang King'.

  • Grape, yeah ... it was you who encouraged me to try writing a blog. Thank you for your support. This blog will remain to be my favourite. It brings so many memories.

  • Aww ... Onee-chan, sorry for missing out on your comment. To answer your question, yes, I really do like the fruit. It's just heavenly when it's the durian season and I can eat it as much as I want. LOL

  • Great fruit, some varieties better than others. I cannot grow them where I live, si we buy frozen ones. We can grow Jack Fruit but not Durian. Our climate is sub-tropical. But when I vsit Singapore/Malaysia in Durian season, YES!

  • Memories come up when I read this blog again Noas.... :* :* to your cheeks :P

  • One question, Noas... Do you like this fruit? I don't. :D

I saw that video...What a crazy try! If it was me, I might stand for less than a minute. lol..... I never know that some places had banned the smell of Durian. :D Btw, I ever heard that some strangers call this "HELL FRUIT". LOL...
