taste of failure...

I failed..I failed my upper English entry test at the university I was transferred to last month. I was a little painful and sad. I need to take it again to be eligible taking other classes for my major. I feel something going off in my way now. It's very annoying and uncomfortable...I thought I would pass the test due to I did well. However, I got a perfect score on my writing part. I did a lot of wrong answers on the multiple choice questions...oh God..so dizzy..Being at the US for 3 years...I still cannot pass an English test..so ashamed..Sadness stays on my face, emptiness fills up my heart..i'm wanna cry..

  • it's my true pleasure to be receiving all of your wonderful advice. I will try my best..thanks so much.. God bless you all.
  • Multiple choice can be tricky and several answers can be probable. The trick is that one was the very best answer. Fa was right in that these tests can be difficult for some American kids too. They just have the advantage of growing up with the language, but not all of them have the best vocabulary. They also may not all have learned grammar properly.

The fact that you did so well on the written part says a lot more about your ability than the multiple choice. I would suggest talking to one of the school counselors in the ESL program. Maybe they can arrange for a retest of the bad part and hopefully they can even go over the test with you and show you what the better answers were. I am very pleased to hear of your writing score and that is far more difficult to do well than just answering some multiple choice.

Please go to http://www.examenglish.com/ and test yourself with the level test in the right column. It says which exam is right for you? Free level test. That will get harder the better you do. In other words, every right answer causes it to increase the difficulty until it can place you.

Let me know how you did on that test after you finish. I think you must wipe off the tears and take the university test again. I feel sure that you can do it. :-)
  • Cheer up!
Maybe it just wasn't your day,and luck was not on your side.
next time you will pass it hopefully,we are crossing our fingers for you,go,go,go!
You can do it;wish you success!
  • Please don't feel sad. That's normal. Some frustrations in our lives help us to strive for the best in the future.
    May success crown your wishes.

  • Hello Anh Tran,
Sorry to hear about your failing the English test. Maybe you can work on more fine-tuning your grammar. I totally understand what you say in the blog, but I can find at least six grammatical errors in it. Please don't take it bad. I just wanted to help you win!

  • thanks for all of your comments and encourages.. I'll keep going on..
  • Don't let the failure discourage you! You just keep learning hard and you'll succeed in the end. Good luck!
  • Do you know that some natives do not pass these test easily.
Did you fail because of bad luck, or of bad approach to learn the right way?
Study why, revise your way of learning, put the aim to know more than what is needed for the test, do not study how to pass but how to be perfect in the language.
Do not think of the grades while learning, think of the language as a way to communicate. You will be so surprised at the end. Good luck.
