Summer is supposed to be for having a rest. Some of us rested from their labours, travelling and not thinking of their problems, while others continue to work or study, demonstrating willingness and pleasure, or not feeling much fun in that. After starting to work, we face different, often old, problems that puzzle us... How to cope with them? The answer is simple -- to do something interesting! This will help control your emotions! Doing sports, reading, watching anime, surfing the Internet, learning foreign languages, writing after all !I 'd like to present you the poem of Vladimir Vysotsky, who, not being for a long time a professional author, wrote, and wrote much about his deep and strong feelings.Read and answer: Do you have any of this feelings? Can you express yourself in English?Vladimir Vysotsky. "I hate."I hate the fatal end - it’s so clear,Life never makes me tired, faint or blue,And I do hate each season of the yearWhen I don’t sing my merry songs to you.I hate the guy who’s cynical and cold;I’m rather cautious seeing too much glee;I hate to see the lad so rude and bold,Who reads my letters peeping over me.I’m full of bile when things are half-completed,To cut the talk abruptly - it’s a shame! To shoot in someone’s back is mean and bitter,To shoot the man point blank is just the same!Conceit and vanity, I think, are both rotten -I’d rather have a car with no brakes...It’s a disgrace that honor is forgottenBut in the race of life the squealers win the stakesFor gossip, tittle-tattle I don’t care,I hate both wavering and grandeur-gaining fuss,I hate it when I’m stroked against the hair,I hate to see how iron crushes glass. The broken wings in me wake no compassion,Though I am not too callous or too hard; And though I hate depression and aggression,The martyrdom of Christ still breaks my heart.I hate myself when I get feet so coldThat I can watch how innocents are hit...I hate it when they break into my soul,And hate it when into my soul they spit.I hate it when true art is turned to vending,When tawdry jesters’ fortunes dissipate...And even if great changes are impending,I’ll never fall in love with what I hate!Vladimir Vysotsky

  • Hello, dear Natasha!

I added for your wonderful blog one of the poems by Vladimir Vysotskiy "Koni priveredliviye". I hope, all readers of your blog will love this poem!

"Koni Priveredliviye" in Russian and English

  • By the drop above the void, right along the very edge,
Lashing horses with a horsewhip, I am hastening them, urging.
All a sudden out of air, gulping wind and gobbling fog,
    Sensing in a fatal rapture: I'm a goner, I'm a goner!

Do slow down a little, horses! Do slow down just a bit!
Don't obey a taut whip! Beg you, don't!
That the horses so unruly should have fallen to me -
Out of time to live up, fail to finish the song...

    I will water my steeds,
    I will finish the song,
I will stand just a bit
    At the back of beyond...

I will perish - like a flake, the gale will sweep me off the earth face,
And the sleigh will drag my brawn at the daybreak by the snow plain.
Will you go, my wayward horses, into an unhurried pace,
Just a little, to elongate the journey to the final haven!

Do slow down a little, horses! Do slow down just a bit!
You are not to be goaded by a thong.
That the horses so unruly should have fallen to me,
Out of time to live up, fail to finish the song...

    I will water my steeds,
    I will finish the song,
I will stand just a bit
    At the back of beyond...

We're on time: before the Lord, you are never late to stand.
Why are the angels chanting, then, with the voices ever so vexed?
Whether it's the harness bell, choking with a bitter lament,
Or it's me, a-swear at horses lest they drag the sleigh in haste?

Do slow down a little, horses! Do slow down just a bit!
Don't you gallop, beseech you to slow!
That the horses so unruly should have fallen to me,
Out of time to live up, but to finish the song...

    I will water my steeds,
    I will finish the song,
I will stand just a bit
    At the back of beyond...
  • Hello, Natasha! Hello, everybody!
Thank you very much, Natasha, for your wonderful blog! I love Vladimir Vysotsky - like most of Soviet people, but the authorities hated him, and Vysotsky hated the authorities!
He was a wonderful actor, poet, musician and singer. He was born in 1938 and died in1980. His last concert took place in Kaliningrad!
Vysotsky was very popular in Japan (1977 - 1999), in France, etc... Perhaps, because his wife was Marina Vladi. She wrote "Vladimir, or the Aborted Flight", translated into Russian, German, Armenian and many other languages. But, perhaps, because, the Sovit authorities hated him.
I think, Yoh heard songs of Vysotsky - Eiichi Arai, a famous Korean-Japanese singer, sang them.
I can't put video with Vysotsky here, so I put it on my page - Natasha doesn't want to put it in her blog - she likes only his audio! :-)

  • Hi Yoh,
I agree with you -- it's hard to find exact words being under the first impression of some book or film etc. It was very interesting for me ro read your opinion a fiew minutes ago. Our cultures are different, but moral code is single. Thank you for expressing your noble feelings! ^_^
  • Hi Natasha,
    Back to discussion^_^
I have used the word "hate" several times before, just because "hate" is easier to say "don't like". Then, I found that people here take the word very seriously. I learned I shouldn't use "hate" that easily. I think "hate" is such a strong, active word, hence the Vysotsky's poem probably expresses much more fierce resentment than I could imagine.

I like the line "I hate to see how iron crushes glass". Actually it makes my heart ache. He sees himself or people of his day in that shattered glass...
  • Hi Fizzy,
It's hard believe to it... I think those things tried to earn somebody's hatred...
    Thanks for the remark, Fizzy!
  • Vladimir Vysotsky poem so cool.. i used to hate about everything.. and sad to say still do.. he he yet not that much..
  • Maybe, you're speaking of strong personalities, first of all ,that you sympathize with...
    It's praiseworthy...
  • I agree. We must appreciate such writers who have burned out their lives and left us gifts of great literature. Personally, however, I prefer writers with unbeatable strength, such as Lu Xun and L. Tolstoy.
