Start Saving Up!

The prices of commodities are zooming up as fast as the bullet trains. We should take considerations on saving money, petrol, electricity and water and take advantage the free health and community services offered by the government.

On buying thing like clothes or gadgets, we must first ask ourselves if we really need it. Are you familiar in impulse buying? Sometimes, we only buy things just to spend or we think it look good to us. Not clearly thinking if it is essentially important. A typical example, as we walked across the mall, we saw a well-made shirt or dress displayed in a clothing shop. The following day, you saw it again and you're itching to purchase it only to find out that it's expensive, an equivalent to your 3 day rate. You have to ask yourself over and over if we really need it. Do I really need it? What other important things that I could buy with my money right now? Unless if it a birthday present for yourself then buy it. Just kidding...

Tell yourself, yes I want it but I don't really need it right now.

One of the best ways to save up is to a lot 10% from your salary and have it deposited in separate savings account. It would be best not use this money for spending on things rather for emergency purposes only. At least, when the tough times comes, you'll not over-stressed to borrow money from your friends or relatives. You can get from your own savings.

It sounds simple, but having a piggy bank (where you can put a few coins everyday) is another good way to save up. You'll never notice that the coins you invested could turn to a hundred bucks in a week. I have been doing it since I was a kid. I can say it really works.

These are some of simple ways to save money. It's up to you if you want to try it. I believe everyone wants to be financially stable. Aren't we?

Do you have other ideas that you could share to me and to other members? If yes, that would be awesome....

  • Dearest Jane,

I'm thankful to have a friend like you here in MyEC. Managing finances on medicines and hospitalization of your mom was tough not to mention the pain that you had when she was battling her illness. I think that experience was so painful for both of us because we had the same dilemma. Losing our love ones would forever left a mark in our hearts.

Though you're single, you still have to reward yourself for a job well done but at the same time save something for your future. I'm glad you're not a materialistic lady which means you know how you prioritize your needs.

Again, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on my blogs and discussions. May God bless you and your family. Take care...

  • Hello M. Adaway,

Hi there my friend, thank you for sharing your views regarding on this blog. I think people should save money for his or her future. We never know what will happen to us or if we get  broke at least we have money to use. Yes, some people worship money over God and it's saddening to know that. It's OK whatever amount you want to save up. It's better than not saving at all right? Thanks again...

  • Good day to all... I'm so proud with a lot of responses here in this blog. Thank you MyEC for featuring my blog!
  • Hello Robert, very interesting blog as always... but I don´t completely agree with you, to ask ourselves if we really need a thing is very important, in my case every month I make a list the things I need, I prepare a budget and I try to develop it.

But I don´t save up 10% from my salary, I invest the 10% from my salary, Karenina has right "Think about the inflation", there is not sense to have money and do not use it, if there is an emergency I use my credit card, (actually I have two credit cards), trust me the bank could be a good friend if you know how to use it.

Yo won´t be rich saving the 10% from your salary (at least you earn a lot of money), if you want to be rich you must think like a rich man, the world is full of many making resources, not only your salary.

Thanks for the blog. Gerardo Gordillo

  • i think it is absolutely right, saving money for the future is definitely essential. Besides, you earn a little bit of interest from the banks anyway. even if the interest is really low it is still usable and reliable.  buying stuff for a short term happiness is not really worth it. Especially when the next day the fashion changes again and you have to buy something else again. Plus, it is useless to buy all those junks and store up your rooms with it. They only make it harder to clean up when you need to and harder to find your other stuffs. So i agree with you Robert, saving up for the future is good and helpful

  • i think we have the same kind of thinking when it comes to saving money. My friend had taught me way back 2009 to divide my salary into four savings and i think it works fine on me.
  • Excellent post as always Robert! Great use of vocabulary!

You gave some really great advice here. One way I save money is to carry around a reusable coffee cup. I only buy a coffee about once a week. It's amazing how much money (and trees) you can save by not buying coffee or tea from a disposable cup every day. We have also lived with one car for almost ten years now. I'm itching to get a car this year because we don't live in a small town anymore and my husband always has my car!

English challenge: Can you fix up these phrases?

    take advantage the

Are you familiar in impulse buying?

  • Hi Robert,

Good way of saving, thank you. If everyone asks himself before buying things if such things are necessary or not, he will save alot of money. on your second advice, It is said "a drop on a drop make rivers". Here our people say that:" the white penny is for the black day". It is good to save, but sometimes you spend it all with inflation or necessray purchases. Thank you.

  • Hi Roberto,

thanks for sharing your ideas with us, but I have a question for you; if your country's inflation would be so high that saving money leads to decreasing its cost, even during one year, how can you encourage people to save money?!

  • While reading your blog, I remember my friend who cannot do away from spending money. She left her job here in our country and even sacrificed her family just to escape from her responsibilities ( paying large amount of money from many borrowers she had borrowed). She thought that going to other country can permanently erased the stress she had have when many payment collectors were asking her to pay her debts.  Knowing her status  before she left, I told her that the only way she can solve her problem is by disciplining herself not to buy anything that is not so important and spend money not beyond her salary limit. Our friends also told her the same things. She did n`t listen to us so she ended up having a pile of debts which she cannot completely think of how she can pay it. What a pity!

My friends always told me 'you are single but why are you frugal with yourself?" I told them I have important things to use with my money. My family suffered a financial crisis when my mother had been hospitalized and undergone medication for almost 5 years. Together with my brother and father, we helped each other just to pay those people we have borrowed money. We almost payed our debts. That experienced gave me an idea that i should have save money just in case when tough times come I don`t have to borrow money. Anyway, it is easy for me to save money because i`m not a materialistic person , at the same time i`m a wise buyer. I don`t always  go along with the new trends.
