My little garden

Here in Germany many people have a garden at a garden colony. Colony means in that case there are many gardens at the same area. One garden is next the other. All gardens are connected throug narrow ways. You can go on a stroll around those garden colonies, then you have the opportunity to see all the different concepts how people form their gardens. No garden is equal to others.

The tradition of those gardens here in Germany is already very old but for some years it wasn't modern anymore to farm such a garden ... especially for young people. Later people have changed again their mind and nowadays people appreciate it again to grow their own vegetables and to harvest own fruits.
In my garden I plant and sow tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, green beans, strawberries, kohlrabi, radishes, parsley, celery and cauliflower. Also some herbals as there are mint, thyme, borretsch, sage and others more. There are also fruit trees in my garden and berry bushes.
My garden isn't large, so I don't have many trees and bushes but it's enough for me, my husband, our kids and grandchidren.
We have trees with sweet cherries and sour cherries, peaches, apricots, berry bushes with gooseberries, black and red currants, elder, grapes and raspberries.

And of course we have many different flowers and green plants.

A little pond with fishes, water lilies and some other water plants, sorrounded by green plants and grass, is a perfect place where we relax after gardening. The fishes in the pond come to the pond edge and nibble on my fingers, while I feed them.

We have had already many parties and barbecues at garden, with our family and friends. It's always a big fun for everyone.

There is even a small furnished wooden "house" where we can go when it rains outside. It's only one single room, a combination of sitting room and a kitchen. Even a small toilet is next to the house in a shed where we have our tools for gardening. It' only for every cases ... hahaha.

We eat the vegetables when it's ripe. I freeze the herbs for the winter, or I dry it. So we have also mint tea in winter, even it isn't fresh mint tea anymore. It's self made and so we know what we drink. The same with self dried herbs, it's organic. As you can imagine, nobody can eat the fruits of a tree at once. So we eat what we can. From the rest I produce jam and jelly, juice and liquor. So we have still something in winter and waiting for spring isn't so tough.

  • Hello, Rose!

Oh my goodness, your garden is a paradise! It's no doubt that you're a green finger. I admire your passion and skills in managing your garden. I totally agree with you when it comes to using your own produce to feed your family specially it's organic. And I never heard of garden colony before. I'll add that to my vocabulary hi hi. I'm also sure you're always busy as a bee (in a healthy way) whenever you're in the garden.

I hope I'm welcome to roam around your garden and teach me some tricks to better manage a garden if I have the chance to visit Germany in the future. By the way, I love your wooden house. It's like the icing on a cake!

Thank you very much for participating in my writing challenge and for sharing the astonishing photos of your haven. They're truly the stress busters!

    Cheers!
