Malala Yousafzai (Nobel Peace prize winner)

Malala Yousafzai became the youngest ever Nobel Peace prize winner aged just 17 and found out in during a chemistry lesson at school.

The teenager survived an execution attempt in 2012 by Taliban gunmen who shot her in the head when she demanded teenage girls should receive an education in her native Pakistan.

Malala was flown to the UK for life-saving surgery and now lives in Birmingham.

She was told of her accolade in the middle of class at Edgbaston High School for Girls when the Nobel committee announced she had won the award jointly with Indian children’s rights activist Kailash Satyarthi.

Malala received the prestigious award for her struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.

She previously received the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain award in 2013 in the ‘Teenager of Courage’ category for her constant fight for education rights, despite almost by those who opposed her.

  • Thanks for telling us about this unique girl, Kami! I've heard about her on TV and was greatly impressed by the whole story! Without any doubt she deserves this award more than somebody else as well as the Indian children’s rights activist Kailash Satyarthi. I think this time the award has found the proper winners unlike some previous ones. It was said on TV that in the future she would like to return to Pakistan and try to become a Prime Minister!

I wish Malala to stay strong and inspire other people to fight for people's rights!
