It Is Easy To Judge

As some of you know I am atheist but the question is: "Does anybody of you know the reason?" I bet, you have no idea. I bet, you think I am arrogant person with own pride, who decided not to accept God in her life. You know, people judge me easily just because of the fact that I am not religious, even though they know nothing about me. They take me - atheist - automatically as a bad person without morals, values and of course they look down on me. Actually, I have never come across such attitude in my entire life, so do believe me that it is sort of shocking to me. However, this is what this website taught me and I can honestly say that I am thankful to this new experience.

My friends (no matter what their religion is) know who I am and they would never think in this way about me. I don't judge people on the basis of their religion. What matters to me is their character. I don't pretend anything, I am who I am and I am not hidden here behind a fake mask. To be sincere is one of my morals. Yes, I have morals! Weird? Not at all...

I was born in the country, where people mainly are atheists (If I am not wrong statistics say more than 80% are atheists here). My parents, my grandparents, my all classmates, just one girl was religious. To be honest when I look around, there are no believers I would be surrounded by. My all relatives, friends, co-workers, boss, teachers, simply nobody. Is this my fault? Is history of my country my fault? Yes, it is about history, just for you information. I don't want to start here any historical lectures but this whole religious issue has its roots in 17th century. However, as for the latest historical period - the important fact is that we have been for 41 years under the control of the communists, who were totally against the religion. We didn't have freedom here, we were persecuted for own opinions, we couldn't say in the public anything against this regime, otherwise we would be imprisoned. We didn't study subjects such as religion and I have never experienced any discussion about God's existence at school. It might sound awkward but this systém from my point of view killed God. Is this also my fault that I was born and grew up in such environment?

Some of you might opose now and can say: „Ok, but she is mature, there is freedom, she can change her way of thinking and can accept God in her life.“ Believe it or not, I was thinking about it and I simply can't. Nothing like pride or stubborness have to do with it because I am not this kind of person. I just feel that I can't totally change all my life and especially the way of thinking. Just imagine and tell me: "Can you become right now atheist?" Of course, you can't.

I am happy to be a part of this website. I don't want to start any fights here, I just dislike when things are unfair. I asked one question and this is my "sin". To write a blog about me, to say this is not anything personal, to use parts of discussion against me, to give me image of somebody who I am not, this all I find kind of backstubbing, especially as long as it was written by somebody, who calls himself my friend. If this is the way how the religious people introduce their opinions and treat friends, then let me be out of this and let me enjoy my life, in which friendship has way different meaning.

  • Luci I have lived in many different places and been surrounded by many religions: Japan, USA, Saudi Arabia, Botswana, Honduras and the Navajo Nation. My observation may seem counterintutitive (opposite of what you would expect), but most of the agnostic and athiest people I have known have been far above the average in morality and caring about other people.

I can only base this on people that I've known but most people I've met who claim no religion seem to be happier and treat others better than many of the religious people (or people who claim to be religious).  I believe that many religions believe that god will be the judge of everyone and it is not the place of people to do so. If we say we are religious and yet judge other people, are we not doing what god keeps as god's work?

My mother taught me to never judge others so I may observe and form some opinions, but I will never judge anyone who is not harming or killing other people. If you hurt or kill others then I will judge you to be a bad person, in my own opinion.

  • Dear Luci,

We can't choose in which we were born, which social, which kind of believe. We are given an intelligence and logical thinking to decide what path we will walk in. I do really believe in my religion. But, I won't do anything to force anyone to join or mock your believe. It's all your choice. And it's all about people's reaction of a sensitive question for who believe in God (You asked, so they gave answer), I guess. All the people in the world can be sensitive in a certain case, include you, and me. Sorry, maybe I'm younger than you. But, I say too much.

Anyway, I learned a lot from this occurrence..

Wish you have a good life, it's nice to meet you, and keep active here in EC, Luci. ;))

  • It's so rediculous to judge someone on their religion.

Don't let their nonsense disturb you, Luci - I side with you. By the way, I'm an atheist, too.

  • Hi Lucy,

I'm so sorry to hear that you have to endure public scrutiny because of a discussion about religion. It's actually one of the topics that shouldn't be discussed in any conversation especially here on our club. However, we have to accept the fact that we're living in an unfair and demeaning world. If you know in your heart that you didn't belittle anyone regardless of his/her religion, then let the good karma give you a peace of mind.

In any case, thank you for your contribution (video, blogs, photos, etc.) on MyEC!

  • Hello Luci
I don't want to discuss your thoughts , this is your business , even it;s not the right place to talk about it , just I would say you are smart person , you are so kind and cute , you full of knowledge , and you are active person , I read most your blogs , for those things I respect you .
So , Good luck for you .

  • Let them judge Luci, for in the same way they will be judged also.  It's not you who is on the worst side of judgement but them who are quick to render it.  They like to play as little gods maybe because they don't know that judgement alone belongs to Someone who is higher and greater than men.

Just remember that the ones who stay exaggerately defensive are the ones who are usually guilty.  I know you are trying to clear out everything here(although I don't see any reason for you to do so because there is nothing to clear out actually) but don't let it dishearten you that some people are born open minded and some, narrow minded.

How can you call someone religious if his intention is to put you on the judgement seat?  The intention is crystal clear...to wreck havoc and create a warring faction.

Dear, my hypertension is rising!  Inhale, exhale.  It's not your fault if you are born an atheist.

  • Heli, meadow.. thanx :-D

Keita, you have never walked in my shoes.. however, thanx for your comment :-)

  • Thank you sis. thuogh i am a muslim, i like your courage and sands, but do not say that you were borned in such a society so you cann't be religious. You can take your own time and study a bit on the various religion so that you may unerstand that yes God do exist and we were created to served him. thanks you.
