I think learning the English language is not a waste of time.Here in our country there are many english speakers like teachers, doctors, nurses, call center agents, etc.Now why do we want to learn the English language?As I have written on my blog "Is the English language a tsunami that washes out other languages?" it is because of opportunity.First of all the medium of instructions in schools in our country is in English.Subjects like Mathematics, English, Science and Technology are all taught in English.Second because of opportunity. Many people here in our country who cannot find jobs here go abroad. Filipinos who want to work abroad like nurses, welders, domestic helpers must know how to speak English, because most of the countries that hire filipino workers are English speaking countries.another reason is because there are many contact centers here in the philippines.It is also called the sunshine industry of our country because of millions of dollars of taxes that the government earns from it. There are 400,000 Filipinos who are good or should I say fluent in English that works in call centers here. And they earn well they earn from 20,000 pesos to 40,000.last but not the least it is because the world is getting smaller. Information spread fast because of internet. Travelling is much easier now because of airplanes, cars, Ships etc. since the world is getting smaller and we people from all over the world meet we need a language that will make communicating with one another much easier and English is the answer.so for me learning English language is not a waste of time
No doubt that studying English is not a waste of time. It is simply the oppositr. We - speakers of other languages- should do everythin within our power 2 acquire the English language.That would not be achieved unless we surround ourselves with English, just like what we are doin here at EC *_*
You can say that again - I couldn't agree more. English seems to be a global language now and may mean opportunities, jobs, success, or even great future. So we're doing the right thing here - it's worth all the efforts to learn it!
