How to own Destiny

My blog in response to Onee's writing challenge, though it contain very few usage of perfect tense.

There had been a very famous Sufi, Poet and Herbalist, after which his nick name was Attar (Attar mean herbalist, druggist, perfumer and Alchemist).  He was basically a poet, then he turned to Sufiism.   There is a story behind how he was turned to the Sufiism.

Abu Hamid Bain Abu Bakr Ibrahim (Attar) once was in his shop which was full of all kind of merchandises relating to his profession and he was checking and writing in a register.  While he was very much drowned in his work, a Qalandar*.  He attired himself with a shawl of rug and very poor clothes.

The qalandar called Attar, “O Attar, how so you are drown in your business and merchandize! How will you die?”

Attar raised his face and (considering the qalandar as some beggar) said very indifferently, “Like you will die.”

“Oh, is that so!”

The qalandar saying this lied down on the pavement and covered himself with his shawl of rug.

Attar got busy and when had passed all his day in dealing with his customers.  He realized in the evening that the qalandar was still lying on the payment.  He climbed down his shop and got closed to the qalandar.  He called him many times, but the qalandar didn’t move. He uncovered the face of the qalandar and shocked to see that the qalandar had died.

He immediately realized that the qalandar had passed away giving him the ‘message’.

It is said that the Attar then closed his shop and then turned to the Sufiism and the spirituality.

If we adopt the straight path of love of our Creator, He has vowed that He will give the destiny in our hand.

*(Qalandar is a title given to a saint who is at a very high level of spirituality. They are different from other saints and have very strong feelings of love for God's creation. Qalandars, among the saints, are those persons who may enjoy freedom from the ties and bounds of time and space.)

  • Yes SI
  • Thank you! I think you mean you heard it at a Jumu'ah Congregation right?

  • The message in the story is very simple Onee/Be/Salma that you give yourself to Allah, Allah will give Itself to you.

In the story the qalandar meant when you are so busy in the worldly tasks that you do not give a hitch (tie) to the love of Allah and the our heart is drowned deep in the world, then it becomes hard for the soul to get out of the body at the time of death. On qalandar's warning the Attar taunted him saying he (Attar) will die like the qalandar will die. On that qalandar lied down, covered himself with rug and get his soul released. It means that the qalandar was so deep in spirituality and love of Allah that Allah gave him the will to die whenever he wishes.

I once again want to say that this was the story I heard in a Juma Aggregation long time ago when the scholar was delivering lecture on the topic Love of Allah.

Hope now you have understood the story.
  • Misha...I also read and hear some stories about Sufis', their capability, power, rare quality, extra quality, knowledge etc. I hear they could/can understand many things even when regular people do not say to them. Yes, main thing is connection/believe upon almighty. And, life is full of mysteries! I heard once a poor man came to one of our known people's house. He asked for some food. The Woman of that home was kind but she hesitated for a while whether she would give newly cooked rice to that man. Instantly....that man told....okay no need to give me...or something like that...Sufism is mysterious....in our part Sufi(s) played a great role to spread Islam....they gave health support, free food, it is said their houses meant...a place to live along with a place where people got free treatment and food.

  • Mishaikh,

Same with Salma, I don't get it, either. :)

By the way, but this is dialogue challenge. hehe.

So many thanks for your attempt. 'Have a wonderful day!' :)

  • Salma
I have explained in my response to bet's comment.
  • I read this story more than once but I still don't understand it.

  • @dara

It is for common people like us.  In Sufiism and spirituality the limitations are different.

KE MUHAMMAD SAY WAFA TU HUM TAIRAY HAIN + YEH JAHAN CHEEZ HAI KIYA "LOG O QALAM" TAIRAY HAIN.

  • @bet read the story, didn't you see how the qalandar lied down before Attar and called his death showing that he (qalandar) had been bestowed upon the power because of Allah's love the qalandar had.  Just be in deep love with the Creator and He will the destiny in your hand.

    Hope you understand now.

Please be cleared these matters are based on the believing and faith.  Allah says, "you come to few step, I will come to you more steps then you taken, you walk to me I will run to you.  You just show intention and imply, rest leave it to me."

  • I would like to know how they enjoy freedom from the ties and bounds of time and space?
