HOW TO LIVE A HEALTHY LIFE ?

It's an age old saying that, HEALTH IS WEALTH!

The way, we live our lives, nowadays, is very much different, and unhealthy, when compared to the way, previous generations lived. And it's not a very old tale, say for example 60-80 years back, people used to live in a way, very different and healthier than ours.Now, the question arises that, what is the difference?Well, the difference is that of life style. In the old times(but not very old times), people or what we can say, majority of people weren't used to the sedentary life style, that we have today. There weren't any cars, buses, trains, and planes at that time. And people of those times, spend much more time, walking. Technology at those times, wasn't that much developed; there were no machines to plough the fields. So the people at those times used to grow the fruits, vegetables and all the other things we eat, with their hands, with the help of their oxen only.

Also there were no factories, mills, and things like that, so people were used to a very active life. People at those times, did all the household chores by hand, as there were no washing machines, dish washers, and vacuum cleaners, etc.

And oh yes! There weren't any televisions or computers. So the people at those times, spent their free time in playing games. And for the same reason, and also because electricity wasn't invented at that time, people were used to go to the bed early at night, and hence were used to wake up early in the morning.

People at those times were used to eat healthy food. People at those times, didn't eat so much beef and meat, as we eat nowadays. People were used to eat more vegetables and fruit. As those people, used to live very active lives, their bodies were able to consume, all the fatty foods like butter, cheese and whole milk. There wasn't any concept of junk food, and there were not as many restaurants as we have today;so people ate healthy home made food. There weren't such issues, like organic and inorganic food.

Well, the list is very long, and it isn't possible for me to write all the detail in a single blog.So now, let's have a look at our present day life style.We are living very unhealthy lives, nowadays. Many people eat junk and restaurant food nowadays, as they do not bother to cook at home. Organic and inorganic food is a big issue. Farmers use pesticides and insecticides to increase the production; but they never bother to think, how hazardous these chemicals are to environment and human health. Meat & milk production has been raised with the help of different kinds hormonal drugs, which are very dangerous to human health. As the production of meat has been raised, so is its consumption; especially when people live sedentary lives and meat is treated with hormones.

Nowadays, people want to travel in cars, on buses, planes and trains, and don't want to walk. Televisions and computers are there, so not only adults but children also, don't want to play or exercise in their free time. People spent too much time watching tv, or on computers at night, hence go to bed very late and then wake up late in the morning and even at noon.Even with the advent of remote controls, peoples have given up the very minor activities, like changing the channels while watching tv, or turning off tvs, air conditioners, light bulbs, fans and what not. Things like washing machines, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, etc. are no more considered as luxuries, but regarded as the necessities of life.And as I mentioned before list is very long!Now, the question arise, HOW TO LIVE A HEALTHY LIFE ?Well, the answer is not very complicated. Below are some tips, if you follow them, you'll stay healthy and live longer lives.

1. Say bye bye to sedentary life style! Exercise regularly: simple brisk walking for 40 minutes a day, keep you healthy and fit. If your office or work place is at a short distance from home, take a walk or rode a bicycle, instead of car, bus or train. Also gardening is not only fun, but it also keeps you active. Check your weight on regular basis, so you can keep yourself in a certain limit.

2. Eat healthy! Eat lots of green vegetables, and fruit; they are rich in vitamins, minerals & fiber. Decrease the intake of meat, especially red meat. Instead eat white meat(poultry & fish). Eat fish and fish oil, as it keeps you healthy. Regularly eat a handful of nuts, like Almonds and Walnuts. Drink skimmed milk. Do not eat junk or processed food, instead eat freshly cooked home food. And oh yes, decrease the intake of sugar and salt in your food.

3. Drink healthy! Drink at least 6-8 glasses of boiled, plain water. Do not drink alcohol and soft drinks, instead drink fresh fruit juices. Do not drink too much coffee or tea.

4. Do not smoke!

5.Early to bed, early to rise; makes a man healthy wealthy and wise! Do not stay very late at night, even for studies. Take proper sleep; sleep boosts your memory & makes you fresh. Certain hormonal and metabolic processes in your body, want you to sleep, on the same time everyday.

6. Do not take much stress, be happy! As you know well, stress is not a healthy phenomenon. It not only destroys your health, but also, more you worry, you become old at more younger age!
