Some people who study English may encounter the difficulty with keeping their motivation for study English. I am one of them. I usually don't speak English except for English class.So,why do I study English?Because I like it. This is the only reason for studying English.Today, my family and I went to the museum and we found the guy who couldn't speak Japanese and he had something to ask for the person at the counter.But they didn't seem to like comunicate.So, I tried to help them in English and it worked.(Maybe....)Helping people by using English make my big motivation.That's why I may study English.For someday that helping people with English....

I also had a similar experience as yours. Long time ago, one of my friends comes from Sourth Africa living in Taiwan,when she wanted to develop her photos at a photographic studio,she didn't know how to speak in Chinese to the shopkeeper,so she phoned me to help her out on that time to solve the problem. I was glad because I could help her owing to the language. Also, when I can figure out what TV programs, movies or radios say in English gradually that is all the motivation for me to keep going on learning English. Thanks for an interesting topic.
