Have you ever written a letter to yourself?

Have you ever written a letter to yourself? Last week, on Sep 17th, my university asked me to write a letter to myself. The office of the Registrar would then keep the letter in a box confidentially for four years when I am supposed to finish my program. Then, after graduation, they would give the letter back to me. So, I could write inspirational letter or could mention my goals and dreams. I found this idea very fascinating.

The reason that I love this idea is, in fact, I wrote a contract with myself. And, I have to be loyal to what I wrote. I emphasized the importance of what I am doing right now to my mind. And, this is really important for manifesting the dreams. If you tell your mind what is important to you, you more likely to follow your dreams and get what you want according to psychologists.

The first time I noticed the importance of writing about my goals was when I was studying for Testing English as a second Language (you can see my post here). I remember my super teacher, dear Tara, asked all test takers to write their goals for TOEFL on TOEFL group on MYEC. That time, I did not know how effective it is, however, I trusted dear Tara and wrote my goals there. When I was so down, remembering my goals and dreams were a driving force to overcome my difficulties.

So, have you ever written a letter to yourself? Believe me or not, it really helps dreams come true.

  • It's really great to reflect your own ideas ,thoughts and dreams in a letter to yourself,as if someone sees himself in a mirror!

I will try it! Thank you

  • Dear Nadira, thanks a million times for reading the blog. I'm glad you liked it.
  • A wonderful idea  to be  focused  and  to be motivated.
thank you sweet Nafis  for sharing  it  with us .
  • Dear Ahmad, I think the reason they give us this assignment is to see how we are commited to what we are doing. And, as you said, when you write something, you are more careful. Thanks a lot for your comment.
  • Dear Manuela, ohhh..please don't talk that way. It really makes me sad when you say when you passed away...I think it's really great you have written everything. And, it needs discipline in my opinion. I never could do this. However, I've decided to do it. When you write, you can organize thoughts and ideas better and know yourself too..wow! I really love to read it too..it must be very insightful..
  • Dear Expector, thank you so much for the comment. I think we can write this letter about anything and anytime. For example, about our job, we can write a letter and mention our goals or dreams or whatever it is important to us. So, later better than never.
  • I never wrote myself a letter, but since i was 14, i write a diary, where i drop all what comes to my mind, my joys, my sorrows but also my goals, my regrets, my failures and my success. Sometimes i take one of my numerous notebooks and i read it again. Often it makes me laugh. I hope that one day, after i pass away, my children will read it, it will be a very good way for them to know me deeper.
  • I wish I could have written myself such a letter. That would be fun. I'll try to do so!
