Running Towards Happiness

At the start of 2016, I said to myself to take simple things in life and be happy. I never thought that it will involve changing my life style. I never thought that I could find happiness in running and hiking too.

Like many women, I always bemoaned about my weight, while chugging down a lot of yummy food. Diet is just a fancy word, more like a myth rather than a reality. After my surgery last year, exercises are too few and far in between. Don't get me wrong. I'm not obese, though I'm not at my ideal weight. My excuses, as long as I'm happy, I don't care what other people think.

It all started to change a few weeks back. Call it a midlife crisis, call it chasing a lost youth, or just a fleeting fancy, but I started to join a running group from my company. I started to jog more seriously, well, it's more like waddling rather than jogging. And during the weekend, I will go hiking at the hills within the vicinity.

My first run was on 21 February. It was just a fun run, and it was only 3km. Maybe for some of you, 3km was just a walk in the park, but not for me. It was a big step for something new and interesting. Due to the medication that I had to take, sometimes I will have heart palpitations at inconvenient time. So, I will always try not to exert myself too stressfully.

After successfully completing my first fun run, on 28 February 2016, I joined another fun run. This time it was a 10km Shamrock Run. The track was around the Botany Garden and it was a hilly track. It was a hard run, and harder still when all my friends were very far ahead of me. But like I've said, I don't want to exert myself. I need to listen to my body.

I'm trying to challenge myself to enter more fun runs in 2016. I don't know where it will bring me, or when I will stop. It may not going anywhere besides just some fun runs, or it may change into something magical. Whatever it is, I'm going to enjoy the journey. The main thing is, I'm trying to find another form of happiness to be enjoyed.

  • Thank you Sewar, for your sweet words. You're right. Everyone has to find their own way towards happiness and how to live with it.

  •      Well done my dearest, every one of us live the happiness on his or her way. I found mine with putting a smile on miserable lips. God bless you.

  • Dear Setareh, you're lucky. You enjoyed doing those things. As for me, I'm still learning to enjoy pounding my feet on the ground while sweating like a pig. :D :D :D I will try to keep on running, though maybe not really running 'running' but rather 'waddling'. And I hope I will still enjoy it after all said and done. Thanks dear.

  • Dear Noaslpls, well done! I know what exactly you are talking about, because if i stop jogging or swimming or doing aerobic i just feel so bad. Oh i am not doing all three together. Exercising always enhance my spirit. It has so many benefits for our body as well as our mind and soul. Just keep up the good work. I will cross my fingers for you.:D

  • Saba, I'm too lazy to train more than I should, and hence the fun run. :D :D :D Thank you, and take care. :)

  • Your program for running is excellent, running well is better than running more.

Take care and keep on your fun run :)

  • Afro, I'm glad somebody is inspired too. LOL. Your 5 minutes will turn into 50 minutes in no time at all. Thanks for the wishes. :)

  • Evangelina, I have to take your words that when your body is aching, actually it's a nice feeling. LOL.

I don't like listening to music while running. I prefer to listen to the surrounding, even if it was just some kids screaming. It means I'm being surrounded by people, not on my own world.

Though I just started my journey, but you're right. I'm already addicted to it. I already registered my next run in November. :D :D :D Since I've already paid for it, I know no matter what, I have to be ready for that run. :D :D I think that's motivation enough, well, the flight ticket too. LOL

Thank you for your nice wishes, Evangelina. I will try to be strong and healthy, besides just being happy. :)

  • Hey, nice to know that you do it regularly. walking is my favourite. Right now I am inspired by you. Yes, I am going to take a walk for 5 minutes at my office ( not running....lol). Best wishes, Noa.

  • Elen, I belong to the 'lazy' category too. :D :D :D But I know I need to change my lifestyle. Maybe I won't be a marathon runner, but, hey, at least I'm a fun run runner. :D :D :D Thank you for the wish. I appreciate it.
