Do you know how to make a dress?

Honestly, I don't know how to make a dress. I may make one but it would get a  wrong size or shape. It may look funny also. What about you, can you make a dress?

I think, first of all, I have to buy cloth as per my choice. Then, it would be better if I give it a wash. Some cloths, you know, shrink after washing. Now, squeeze out water and hang it outside on a rope. You better place a clip on it otherwise it may blow away. After drying, press it properly. I hope, you don't need to send it to a laundry, do it yourself.

Now, place this piece of cloth on a plain table, try to avoid wobbling one! Are you sure, you can cut it without any diagram or picture ( I don't know what it is said exactly)? Oh..before cutting you should take measurement with a measuring tape. After have a nice cutting you may sew it in a sewing machine or do it with your own hand!

  • Haha. Yes, if you're a girl then sure, I can make you one, or tree.. without ulterior motive. But if you're a man, then it might look awkward. There would be a good reason, that other people would not start to think weird thoughts about it.. Ah but if you pay me properly, then I guess it's no problem. ;)

Yeah, I though too, that you probably wrote it for the sake of vocabulary. It's good blog. I liked it, because it's a bit different. Different topic than usual blogs I think.

I'm actually not too good at sewing too. But I do have a sewing-machine. I bought it about 3 years ago. But I only use it to patch my clothes sometime.. Or some other such small things.. Only new thing, that I've made, was a pouch for house keys.. It's that the keys would not destroy my shirt, or pants pocket with the tips of cuts.. There are some few things I could have done better for that pouch too, but it does it's job.

Because I patch rarely. I'm not too good of it yet. Actually my current pants, I wear now, need some sewing too, but well.. I just wear them in home only. And it's good to have more holes in pants to allow fart to escape. lol
And the height of sewing machine is very important. I need to place it higher on desk. Otherwise my shoulders will start to hurt like hell. :D
I patched my jeans buttock at last spring, but did not do too great job. Got wrong with the size of patch.. and I did not have correct color of tread. And I did not know what kind of seam pattern would be best for patching. Tried different zigzag seams..Tthe finish wasn't the nicest... I sew the patch inside, and sew a lot of zigzag all over the worn part of buttock.. But well, it's not good, but that part is not so much visible.. So I don't care. And even if someone saw it. Then It's not my fault. It's his fault for watching someones ass, that he/she has to see someone's ugly sewing work. lol

  • Oh..my..goose....Hardi..would you sew a handkerchief for me...lol Thanks anyway.

Actually I have no vocabulary in this regards (about sew) so, I tried to write a blog and see, I am getting ...thanks, friends!

  • I don't know how to make one. And because I don't have also confidence, in making it. I would try to make something easier first. Maybe shirt? Yeah shirt would be more reasonable for me, since I don't need dress, because I'm a man.
And after shirt I would need also pants.
I guess I would need to measure several times and mark the cutting lines to fabric with chalk. And then measure one more time if I marked the lines correct, before I cut. And then I cut each piece a little bit bigger to be safe, In case I measured it wrong... Yeah I need some extra fabric for seams.... It's fine if my pants or shirt will be too big, so I better add some centimeters to each measure. I can probably adjust, to make it smaller later, but if I made them too small... Then I would have wasted more fabric,  than I would waste, when I made it too big..
Or perhaps I would just waste the fabric anyways, since the final product would be too ugly or not fitting, because I'm too amateur.
But no problem, if the shirt doesn't fit. I can just dear it down to squares. And make it into handkerchiefs. I'm confident that I can sew a handkerchief... Well not beautiful one, but a practical one.. one to wipe your nose, not for show. ^_^

  • Dear Afroo, you should oversew your cutting before sewing otherwise all the thread lines will be cracked easily. Remember to show your dress when you finish. ;)

  • Afroo, you explained it perfectly, just in my case it would be I guess tragedy to sew sth :D anyway..never say never! Maybe the word you didn't know is...stencil ;-)
  • Nice :)

You have explained it well.. I am sure you can sew it as well and make a cool dress.
