The 12th Braz-TESOL National Convention was held in São Paulo, at Escola Beit Yacov. Brilliant educators were there to talk to us teachers of English who loved the talks, workshops and mini courses we attended.I saw many good things that I will adapt to my classes, but something which is really good is that I noticed one more time I'm in the right path, doing what I have done as a teacher. One of the workshops I apreciated a lot was with Jane Godwin Coury. She took great tips to work speaking and writing in the classroom in a fun a practical way, as you can see below:=> LIFECYCLEIn pairs, the students (the teller and the listener) will follow the guide to talk about their memories (when they were 5, 10, 15 and so on years old).Teller // ListenerThe first memory I can recal was... // No, tell me about it!Did I tell you about the time when... // Really? You'll never guess what! // I can't believe it! You did what? The funniest experience I've ever had was... // Wow! That's amazing! The best part was when... // It sounds really greatIt was such a good laugh // Oh my God!It was hilarious! // Yeah, then what happened? What was really exciting was... // It must have been funny!Finally/Eventually... // What happened in the end?* While the students are talking, the teacher should go around the classroom, take notes to give some feedback later and provide vocabulary.=> DRAWING FAVORITE THINGSFavorite Film // Favorite ClothesFavorite Food // Favorite Person* In pairs, one student will say and describe his favorite thing (film, food, clothes, person, others) and the another one will draw what he says. Then, the listener will tell the other classmates what his partner's favorite thing is like. Instead of saying the name of the thing, an idea is the teller only describe it and the listener guess it.=> GUESS MY LIFE2 / Sushi / 2010 / Brazil* This activity is good to be done in the first day of class. In pairs, students have to guess about the other friend's life using the information given. Then, introduce him to the other classmates. The teacher goes around the classroom to take notes and give feedback to the sts later.
