I agree with Paul and Zivi. Sometimes I also ask such question to the guy who chat me. It is important for me so I can know how to behave.

When there still existed the old englishclub chatroom#1 the most asked question has been "asl?" which meant people were asking for age, sex, and language. From what I found out ppl asked because they were curious to know the other andhow to start a talk. Well in this MyEC Chatroom one may look people´s pages up and find some information. Now the next question coming to mind is: "are you married?" To me it is just a question to bridge the distance since ppl dunno how to start a talk. Since religion and politics may lead into a struggle quite soon and are somewhat frowned upon in serious international chat rooms.

I might err, but it seems a general question in order to start a conversation.

I think first it is an innocent question, because nobody is going to propose any one in an initial chat. It is just to get to know as much as possible. I have also been asking by the chatters the same question again and again. Yesterday was the recent. So consider it as routine of chatting and nothing else.

When I first came here 2 years ago I didn't want to say I married or I am 36

It was my first time to talk ton cyber people . I felt that most of them are younger than me and they won't talk or chat because of my age

Now , I have changed I tell my age honestly and say I am married and a mom with 4 little birds in the nest :) people still talk with me here no one have rejected me as I was thinking

Let me say I have many good friends here . However , I think it's an oridinary question . There is no harm to say if u are married or single

What I do....If I do chat with a new member in the very beginning I like to say..I am married and I do a job.
