A Small Talk About Philosopy

It formed by two words, Philis/philia means love or friends and Sophia means wisdom. Basically it means love of wisdom or friend’s wisdom. We call something philosophy because it’s ‘reflective’, means we could agree with it and find it almost everywhere.

How many names can you recall whether he/she related to philosophy? You may said Plato, Aristotle and so on. let me bring you back to 500 years before Christ, Heraclitus said few statements which made him famous, two of them are ‘Phante Rei’ and ‘Binary Opposition’. Let’s check it one by one.

Phante rei, etimologically means everything is flow/flux. The word ‘flow’ reminds us with ‘river’, Heraclitus said none ever step/cross into the same river twice, because the second time that person crosses that river, that person ain’t same person with the one who crossed it before and the river ain’t the same river anymore. Do you agree with this? If yes, this is worth to be a philosophical statement, then.

Binary opposition mentioned everything in this world has its pair or counterpart I.e. husband and wife, pair here means two things that complete each others. Opposite is not same with antonym like dark and bright, the difference lays on gradation which is belong to antonym. Actually I am still not sure about this concept of opposite and antonym, but I do agree about everything in this world has its opposite and they complete each others. There are beauty and ugly, but the beauty is in debt with the ugly because if there is no ugly, beauty wont be existed.

You may be agree or disagree with these philosophy –or maybe you already have your own philosophy, lol- doesn’t matter. There is a reason why philosophy be called as ‘Mater Scientiarum’ aka mother of all sciences, it helps us to understand everything.

Last but not least, Heraclitus said something about death. We don’t have to fear death because death will not come as long as we alive and when it comes, we are no longer live. What do you think? I personally don’t fear death but what comes after it.

By time,

Indeed, mankind is in loss,

Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.

Thanks for reading ^^

  • No, I can't conclude anything from death, yet.

Science cannot reveal about this yet. It's like a button if you press it everything's end, time's up! but who knows if after death we will awake in a matrix world, lol xD

Pssst, have you ever heard about some immortal people, I heard they are exist, lol xD -Sensory truth- la la la :D

  • Wow, great reply.. ..:)

There's only one absolutely sure thing, death. Hehe.. You can conclude from this one statement.
  • I see, so it's real coming from you, lol xD

yes, time plays a role here. then you take example of trees, I don't think that suitable with this 'phante rei'. I meant to walk in a street and think about philosophy at same time, it's kind of hilarious for me, hihihi... Imagine how if I am walking and on my mind goes like this 'hey that tree change!!' lol xD

I give you example of using 'phante rei' on daily life. I will use my self as an example, you may argue me later. there is someone I hate the most, I am very hate him so whenever I see or remember him I become angry. Then, I am thinking about phante rei, everything is flux, so does human, maybe someday he will change into better person. After think about this I become less hatred. What do you think? :D do I sound like a philosopher now? hahahahaha xD just kidding, seriously kidding^^ like you said ;)

  • Thanks for your lovely comment,, ^_^ :D

You're so kind and friendly, dear Peppo.  ^_^

  • No, I didn't notice your comment for Eva.

I see,, sure it's not the same river. time play a role there..

Well, don't worry. I'm always seriously kidding. Serious while kidding or otherwise,, sometimes I cannot differ. Lol..
  • Dear Lovely Onee,.

I was kidding on your status but finally you take it seriously, lol xD thank you so very much^^

Reading your comment makes me laugh, hehe.. because it's show how innocent you are :D I have no idea if you read my message on Eva's page or it's coming from truly from you after read my blog only. philosophy is perplexing indeed so we sometimes mixed things up.

I just want to make little correction about "None ever cross the same river". River here is a real river, not a metaphorical river. Onee Dear, if there is a river near your home, please cross it. then cross it again right after that. do you think that river is still same? I meant the part of the river you just put your feet on it. that part already changed, you stepped the soil under water so the contour is changed. needless to mention the water have changed because water is flowing. so the second time you cross the river, that river ain't same anymore. I have made another example in my comment for Rajib, about the air in my room.

Dear Onee, please take this subject not too seriously, hehe...

    Happy weekend :D

  • I like phylosopy, but somehow my agreement depends on the fact and proof.

Thank you for writing, Peppo. ^_^
  • I hope Heraclitus won't get cough when you talk bout him lol.. ..

Peppo, it is said in Qur'an that everything is created in pair. And for sure I agree with that.

None ever cross the same river?? I'm not sure if it is same with "no one can turn back the time" Everyone is walking on the street, where they will see the different things around him/her. If they see the trees, they will see another trees soon after they come forward. So, they will not see the same trees.
  • Dear MARY!!!

So glad to see you here,. now i know how Mary could be so wise, she is a philosopher, modern one^^

Thanks for you long detailed interesting comment. I do agree with you almost in everything -Include Buddha and Dr. Seuss, hehe-

about afterlife I wont talk much because I didn't die yet, hehehe... but I remember a God of death named Ryuk said this in the end of a popular anime -Death Note- "How do you live is the same way how you die. Death is fair". This may not come from a famous philosopher but somehow I believe it. If we doing good during life, we will die in good way. so, I am sure you will smile brightly when the time comes because you are a kind person :)

    Happy weekend^^

  • Peppo! It's so cool to read your blogs... And this one is about philosopy! I love philosopy, even if I don't really know much about it (few stuff I've read myself, because I had a philosopy subject once, in my student days, but the teacher was a total disaster)

I like and agree with the Phante Rei philosophy... Btw, now I know the meaning of one of my fav book stores in Madrid... it's called Panta Rhei! haha

I also like the theory of Binary Opposition, but it hasn't to be always something 'good'. I guess sometimes the opposite can complete each other, but other times they can get each other on their nerves as well! :D

Your paragraph about death reminds me that popular Tibetan saying: "If a problem can be solved there is no use worrying about it. If it can't be solved, worrying will do no good."
I also like the Buddhist philosophy of learning not to be attached to anything; not even life...

And this also makes me think about a quote not said by any philosopher 'per se', but someone who gave us great children's books, Dr. Seuss: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." These are the words I wanna remember in my last breath. I don't believe in an 'afterlife', but I'm gonna do my best for leaving this world with a smile on my face :)

Thanks for sharing this interesting blog! ^_^
