A history of the world in 100 objects

Hi fellows!

Last year I've been looking for resources on the internet because I wanted to make a "flier"  – that small piece of printed paper sharing an event or a jig among citizens and friends – and found the British Museum, although I know some museums I wonder I had out of sight this one. There's a lot of treasures of course, ancient and strange cultures were calling my attention forever. So I went back once, twice,... A day, an exhibition called my attention specially: The History of the world in 100 objects.  So I began to follow it weekly. Moreover they've done a radio programme about the selected pieces on the BBC4 radio station, all of them around fifteen minutes. While I was hearing the programme I was reading the transcription if I had problems to understand the audio or to check if I understood quite well -or quite bad!- the speech.

Hope you can enjoy it. I'm not sure the link works properly. These days I'm having problems with British servers and my computer are unable to connect with them, I don't know why.-¿

  • So far I didn't have any problems with servers... Everything is allright.
  • Thank you, Javier, for sharing such great information. Really great! Now I could see the trascripts. :)

One good turn deserves another! So, it's my turn to share.

Here you can visit Youtube channel "Great museums" and, besides, one video about "Kid's museum" from it was transcribed on Lybio.net. Enjoy! =)

  • Hi Oksana, hi all

Try to use this link instead the underneath one. You should see a BBC's page with 100 pictures in a row numbered and the title. Click on any of them, you must be redirected to the proper page.

Are you having problems with these servers? "Unknown Server..." actually is the common answer on my computer...

  • Thanks again Oksana, yes it's "flier".2381665688?profile=original

Just a quick one to say where you can find  the transcripts because, now,  British servers are working (more or less but be patience):

Take a look at the trimed screen, numbers are between arrows. You can try to find the transcripts for each object there.

    Good luck and happy surf.

  • Again excellent! Javier, this is just wow! =)

Though I've got a couple of questions after reading your post.

First, how did you manage to find transcripts to the recordings? I tried but didn't succeed. I got upset because what I had heard was really interesting and amazingly well-prepared information and I also wanted to take advantage from the transcripts.

Also I would like to know more about your custom to share events through "flies". We use (in Ukrainian, we even don't translate it) the word "flier" to name small advertising papers but I am not sure if it is the same what you meant.

  • hey, Javier, thank your blog~

you are a interesting and curious person, right~ hehe

most time, i hold a great attraction of ancient things because I am curious about the history and old, mysterious appearance. why you are attracted by these ancient things? for what reason?

    hehe~~ :)
