My dear friends! Being a professional teacher of English grammar, I decided to start this group to help you improve your knowledge of the subject. Many members asked me to do it and I do feel like that! So, I am planning to start a few discussions where you will be able to ask me questions or to have some practice. I'd also like to involve my husband, a native speaker, who is supposed to be helpful. So, how do you feel about such a group?

  • Thanks Danny...then when parents are alive?
I have been born ....and raised?
And another question is....if I say..I feel proud for all of you, is it correct? And I am proud of you is incorrect?

  • Okay, thanks and bye.
  • Bet, in this case it is better to write two sentences:

I have been born in Boston. I was raised in a good family (both my parents pass away)

  • But what if someones parents are not alive
  • Okay, thanks. Seems I got it
  • Dear Bet, it depends on the sentence. If you say WHERE you have been born and raised and your parents are still alive, you should use the present perfect tense. But if you say WHEN, it should be the simple past.

  • Then should I say I have been born .and raised ...
  • Dear Bet, there are different tenses. As usual, we use the simple past tense speaking about some actions or events in the past.

I was born in the 20th century (the 20th century was over 17 years ago).

We use the present perfect tense when those events/actions relate to the present in this or that way.

I have been born in Boston (Boston is still there and I am still alive). When I die, people will say "He was born in Boston"

  • Hello!

what is the difference between I was born and raised and I have been born and raised?

  • Please add me for English practice my Skype khan7865506.
